As I have mentioned before.

Be wary of them - gigo = garbage in garbage out .

Just for the novelty of it , we set ours for our home ????

5k OUT - wrong streets . Other than that .

We use them in our Bush fire trucks , watch them under

heavy cloud or heavy canopy , you won't get a true reading or

any reading at all . I think some of them get their info off googlemaps.

I still take my maps , as I do in my fire trucks . then I don't get lost.

As I said before on this forum, we have had a few.

The previous one, purchased earlier this year Garmin 1490t, was a disaster.

Caused more arguments in the car, got us lost or took so many back street it was ridiculous.

The best one we have ever had without doubt, was a built in unit in a Toyota.

This is the unit that has set the bench mark that all other GPS's have been judged upon.

Managed to get rid of the Garmin om fleabay and purchased another one from fleabay.

The latest unit is a Unden Trax5000, it is right up there with the Toyota one for ease of use, maps, and sensible routing.

The programme that has made it for us is, "Easy" routing, this stays on the main roads only. For towing a caravan, that makes sense.

It is a GPS, not a phone, DVD player, calculator, or anything else. It does what it was bought for:- getting us to and from places correctly.

As other's have said, be careful on what you buy. There is a lot of rubbish out there.

I have a navaman and am happy with it.

I can tell you my must have list, if it helps.

1. ready to go- i.e. don't need to buy maps BFEFORE it will work first time
2. reasonably priced map up dates
3. no blue tooth, dvd, calculator, phone or other do dads
4. the biggest screen- should have been top of the list
5. reasonable warranty
6 portable - can use when walking
7. best proce i could get.

Yeh i am looking to use it off road mainly. i was impressed with my friends VMS. The tracks it was showing up on the cape was amazing, but a sales person told me to be wary as they have had a lot of trouble with them
