Had to happen

I got called out to an accident yesterday , just after chrissy lunch .

A roll-over - nobody hurt , just leaving to go back to th station .

A report of another 'mva' , 25k down th road . I was 1st emerg

service there - actually The only emerg service there .

A bush firey & tow-truck driver , a car Full of 'tourists' had run off

th road , down an embankment . Nobody hurt , nobody pssed .

Both times had to block road while retreiving vehicles . I had said

earlier on fb , to everyone driving in 'my area' 'drive safely' as I

might be th 1st emerg serv to th accident AND that might take over

an hour . Well th 1st bloke waited 1hr 15min , I was there 1st , th

coppers 5min behind me , th towie 10min later , 2 ambo's turned

up just as we were all leaving , th towie got off th mt , so th bloke

could put all his gear in son's car . Got a call from dispatch ---

another one , 25k down th road (sth-back up th bldy mt)

Got home at 9pm . Please DRIVE carefully & enjoy your holiday

trip . I don't think anybody would like to have , a firey & a towie

turn up to an accident & start sorting things out , th others ,

waited for me to give a sit-rep , usually th towie has to take

th driver to th cop-shop for breathtest . AND I ain't a roadside

neurosurgeon or sin bosun . after all that .

I hope Santa was kind to you all .

Loves youse

Happy Chrissie

  • Good on you for being there.   Its quite upsetting coming across that.   Lucky people to have you there at that moment.

Sad but true - someone has to be there for these people, they are lucky it was you. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for being there mate, I hope the lucky survivors appreciated your help and assistance. They all could so easily have been statistics...and spoilt YOUR Christmas further.

Cheers,

As a towie in a past life I know where you are coming from Richo, we are often considered 'vultures' etc but people are very happy to see us when they are broken down in the heat or they are stuck in traffic on a freeway and we arrive to clean up the mess.

I find it strange though that any towie is allowed to take a driver to the police station for a breath test following a crash.  There is no 'continuity' if that happens and there is no way any DUI charge would hold up in court as the driver would say he was sober at the time of the crash but had a swig of whisky or such on the way and no-one could prove otherwise.

Thankfully I no longer have to deal with the carnage on the road which is always worse at this time of year.

Merry Christmas & happy New Year

Neil

coming back from sydney to nowra christmas night along the old hume, id site on 110ks as per the speed limit,
every one went flying past me, including p platers...

I think there should be more visiable police cars around, its just so easy to have an accedent
only takes a second to loose concentration...

drive safe every one

The cops are out in force today here in Echuca. They are pulling everyone over into a service road in what they call a random breath testing. So everyone going to Chemist Warehouse or the camping shop, which is where I was going, got breath tested.
Hopefully it will put a few idiots off the road. I'm still driving by the way.

One of th reasons I enjoy being a firefighter .

Yesterday , still recovering from 'chrissy' & those accidents .

Got a call from 'th Captain' , get down here to -- -- place as

quick as you can , their house is on fire . Got in th cruiser , low

flying , as I got to th turn off , I could see their was not much smoke

from th house , but th fire-station was open , I wheeled up , got th

big truck going & raced down to th house . Got th hoses ready , as

Capt came out of house with mt extinguisher , got my 2 ext's &

joined him in kitchen to finish putting out fire .

The relief on 'our friends' face was thanks enough . Was she grateful

to see 'that big red truck' turn up .

Again please Drive Carefully & watch th Fires . I just read about th

Culburra incident , th road & fire don't care who you are , you play

with it , you pay . It just moves on .

Geez Richo, you could write a book! And still nobody would take notice, they all seem to have the "it wont happen to me" syndrome.
Well we are taking notice, took notice of the P plater who passed us today doing over 110, and the police car who came shortly afterwards. Passed them both later, an accident prevented for now. Lots and lots of traffic out there today on the Monaro highway, you'd think it was a racetrack.

Gerty ,

I have sat in a couple of wrecks & held people as they'passed' ,

as I mentioned earlier , not being a roadside neurosurgeon or a

'sin bosun' , but they did not die alone . The 1st one was th worst ,

as th bloke had hit me head-on , he was over double yellow lines , on

my side of th road , as much as I swerved off th road to try & miss him .

The truck he was overtaking was doing 105klicks , this bloke looked a

red blur to me , I was only half off th road when he hit me . His final

words to me "Sorry mate , I did not see you", he passed 3 weeks later .

Now you may know why I tell people to drive Carefully  - It not only

affects immediate family - a footnote -

Towards th end of my 1st marriage , my ex kept telling me , That she

wished I had been blown up in Vietnam & that I had kileed when th e

Melbourne cut the Evans in half  AND that it should have been Me

killed in That accident - it took it's toll on me over time . So please

Drive carefully.

Richo.
