Free family history look-ups

After a full christmas day surrounded by my family and wonderul grand nieces and nephews (wonderul to have children around isn't it?)

I am having a kick back solo Boxing Day.

I intend to do some genealogy and watch the cricket.

As I have a lot of resources (lots of CDs, directories and on line- including worldwide Ancestory) I am happy to do lookups for anyone out there today.

PM me if you would like a lookup.

Happy Boxing Day

Rosie

Hi Lynette
Found this birth/ christening on the LDS site
11 Feb 1724 RATTERY,DEVON,ENGLAND
residence: Devon, England
parents: "Lauerance" Mugford

the next one - bit too late but right residence
23 Dec 1759 TOTNES,DEVON,ENGLAND
residence: Devon, England
parents: Abram Mugford

found your marriage, but can't be the second fellow- who might be their son (Abraham & Jane)

Abraham Mugford
spouse: Jane Mathews
marriage: 02 Apr 1748 Totnes,Devon,England

seems like Mugford like Matthews women, here's another one
Abraham Mugford
spouse: Mary Matthews
03 Jun 1781 Totnes,Devon,England

Sorry, best I can do, nothing on the ancestry site, except a private tree, which might be you man, but they are not sharing.

Rip and Rosie,
Do you have any favourite free internet sites for researching family history?
Also what program is good to keep your family tree records in?
I have joined the local genealogy club and they have lots of resources which i will eventually check out.

Hi Pam,
I use Ancestral Quest, but have used Family Tree maker. There are lots of good ones, but in my mind, none are "perfect".

If you are just starting off, try a free programme. Personal Ancestral File (PAF) is a free genealogy and family history program. PAF allows you to quickly and easily collect, organize and share your family history and genealogy information, which you can dowload free from www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

Later when you are ready to spend money you can import your data into the new one without any loss.

Best free sites- be careful to trust nothing you find online, and double check everything-
Later Day Saints - www.lds.org
Rootsweb
Cyndi's list is a great site with lots of llinks www.cyndislist.com

Thanks for your reply Rosie.
I have been dabbling and the first lesson I have learnt is to mark down your sources. I often copy stuff to word then copy and paste the web link. otherwise you soon forget where snippets come from.
I really need to spend more time organising what I already have.
