Just seen on TV a story about a cruise ship that went aground & tipped over near the coast of Italy. 3 dead & more still missing. Should i worry? Our cruise leaves on 4th. Feb. Maybe I'll just wear my life jacket 24/7.
scary stuff , its about the same size cruise dad and i went on last year. i just feel there pushing it with so many people on a ship.. we had about the same amount too.. and we were told we may strike cyconic weather out at sea which we did on the way home, but we made it , and i too had cruise ship jitters before we left.. but i think you'll be ok..
I firmly believe that what will be will be and if your time's up there is nothing you can do about it so it's no good worrying.
I agree Clare46, go on your cruise and have a great time. I went on one this time last yr and absolutely loved it. Went snorkeling at Vanuatu - fabulous.
If you're jittery about a cruise ship you'd better sell your caravan/RV and stay at home and not go anywhere as one is much more likely to come to "sticky end" on the road than on a cruise ship.
I believe it must be human error, as the skipper and some crew were arrested immediately. Maybe too tippled to drive the boat, and bumped into the rock on the bottom. It's a fairly new ship, so there seems to be something sus about the captain. He's in jail.

Why would you worry? A lot more caravans come to grief on the road than cruise ships at sea, and we keep on vanning But I did show SWMBO in the hope that she would loose interest in another cruise
Yes why worry, a cruise ship this size has not come to grief like this since the Titanic 100 years ago.
The problem is, the Mediteranean is not a deep waterway and these monster ships get too close to the shore for sightseeing purposes, if they kept to the shipping lanes and left the sightseeing to port stops only, accidents like this would never happen.
Cruise ships are far and away one of the safest means of travel and are are deep port vessels, the big ones even stir the mud up in Sydney harbour and we are a very deep harbour, to go into shallow water with rocky bottoms is courting disaster and this bloke overdid it.

Its riskier driving on our roads given the deaths and injuries from road accidents. Even more risk involved in flying, and having a swim or diving off our coast...... or even going to work, with the OH&S accidents and incidents. It is a bit risky to stay at home, given the Orica chemical leaks in Newcastle. You take a risk getting married, with the high divorce rate, risk of domestic violence etc. If you kiss someone you get diseases, and if you have sex, well...............
OMG, I'd have a drink except I might develop alcoholism and cirrhosis of the liver. Where is the chocolate, nope... might end up with diabetes.
Might just cuddle the cat.... ...........can't do that they give you worms or toxoplasmosis.
OK I'm convnced. I really wasn't too worried. Our cruise is for 39 days & goes to Hong Kong South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand & finishes in Singapore. I think our biggest problem will be the cold weather when we are in port. Winter time up there. We are parking our M/H up at daughter's place just outside Rockhampton & coming back to get the plane for Sydney by tilt train. Just had a fax from QR & they have up graded us from economy seats to busines class. Princess have just sent us an email to say they have upgraded us from the cheapest cabins to the next ones up. Maybe our luck is changing after all our breakdowns.
Actually I am off on a Royal Carribean cruise through the Baltic sea in June and can't wait for the time to pass, as an entree, I am arriving in London in May and going on a coach tour to Ireland 1st, then a few days in London and then off on the cruise...
Thanks 'Gerty', and I hope so...strange my daughter is currently hollidaying in Thailand sent me an email this morning an said the very same thing as she was lazing around the pool.
