Is anyone aware of a site from which I can download a template which I can use to prepare a Contract of Sale for a slide on camper that I am purchasing?
The important things are to have the vendor sign a statement that... 1. He/she is not a bankrupt. 2. That the vehicle/item is not subject to hire purchase or any other form of lien or charge. 3. That he/she has title to the item, eg receipt or other proof of purchase. Registration papers do not confirm title.
(Disclaimer: I am not a legally qualified person)

Good one Lynnie, hope you are well and I'm sure you are excited. Nice av too.
Thanks Doug.
I am glad you like my avatar. I took the photo when my youngest sister, my late Mum and I were engaged in one of our sunset spotting sessions at Walpeup where my Mum lived. It was Christmas Eve 2010 and we decided we would have a little "supper" so we set ourselves up at the edge of a paddock and while waiting for the sunset we enjoyed prawn ****tails, brandy baskets with strawberries and whipped cream and some wine.
It was a lovely and peaceful experience, marred only by the slapping of mosquitoes! Mum died six months later, so it holds wonderful memories for me.
I know that there will be plenty of new, exciting, lovely and memorable experiences in store for me when I head off around this fantastic country of ours.
I hope you are well also.
Lyn
EDITING: It seems that you are not allowed to write "****tails" as it has automatically replaced the first four letters. I guess it will do it again when I submit this. The site must be programmed to disallow certain words even if they are part of another harmless word. Is this correct? -- Edited by Lynnie on Monday 23rd of January 2012 07:49:53 PM

Thanks for sharing that with us Lynnie. It must have been a very special time for you.
To avoid getting censored separate each letter with a space. I got stung on ho t w a t e r and could not understand until Marje pointed out t w a t was the offending bit. All a bit esoteric for a clean living girl like me.
I think that it is in the interests of both of us that we do it right. He is a good fellow to deal with so hopefully we will both be happy with it. I am going to have a look at a Mazda BT-50 shortly. Hopefully it won't be long and I will have the complete "rig". I am not rushing things though - just waiting for the right one just as I did with the camper. Lyn

To check whether the vehicle is under hire purchase and who owns it etc, you can ring vicroads or their interstate equivalents and they will tell you over the phone.you need the Rego and owners details :)
Thanks Shogun, but the contract is for my slide on camper, which will sit on the back of a ute and which does not require registration. I am wondering how I can go about checking ownership. I am entirely confident in the vendor but still want to confirm ownership details before preparing and signing the contract. What type of contract is used for caravan sales? Lyn
Most common form of contract is a bill of sale Lynnie and you can download them from the net. Just make sure you read it fully first to make sure that it covers all aspects that you require.
Yep, that appears to be true but he has asked me to prepare it for his consideration. He is flat out working on the camper to ensure compliance with Australian standards (it was imported from USA). I am happy to prepare the document but it will ultimately be issued by him (if that makes sense). Lyn
Yes, I does make sense Lynnie. At least you will know EXACTLY what is in the document and can close any loopholes that otherwise may be included and protect yourself and your investment
