Help wanted from solo for roads Qld, NSW

Came through that way week before last. Pretty good, except for the heavy rain, and the number of trucks. If theres no flooding of late, should be OK.

PM me when you get here, maybe we can have a coffee.

Can't help with the Gore Highway but it is a major link between Brisbane and the Newell Hwy route to Melbourne. The Newell from Goondi to Dubbo (and beyond) is fine but expect significant heavy vehicle traffic. Google maps suggests a route from Dubbo to Canberra via Cowra and Yass. I've travelled from Cowra to Yass a few years back but not the other legs and it was ok then.

Regardless, check any local knowledge as you go, as my info is not the most up to date.

Have travelled the Cowra/Yass/Canberra route many times.  Certainly is suitable for your 5thy red.  Some nice scenery along the way as well.

Please do not depend on those websites.
The information can be generally useful, but the actual road conditions can also be 3 to 4 days old.
In this climate of downpours and flash-flooding, this could be very dangerous, if you're on a schedule and can't afford the delays.

We are currently in Narrabri (showgrounds) sitting out the rain.  Not sure of situation between Goondiwindi & Narrabri, but I understand it is OK from Narrabri to Dubbo via The Newell

When we not sure how the highways are we just ring ahead to the local police, for road condition's and they have been most helpful

If you have UHF radio in your tug stay tuned to Ch40 and if necessary ask the trucks coming from the opposite direction what the road is like behind them. These guys and girls can be a valuable resource out there on the long highways.
Some Police can be nice and helpful, while others are not.
Take care, safe and happy travels.

I have always found local SES are more helpful ..maybe because most are local to area and usually have thier finger on the pluse ....
