I'd say sack the operator. This person who takes the calls is the one who makes the next move. It seems as though they have let you down. I'd report this incident to the head office of the RACV. I'm glad your problem was resolved in a satisfactory manner in the end.
I agree CG, after a lengthy phone call yesterday to RACV I have sent a detailed 2 page letter to the General Manager of RACV, he should get it Thursday or Friday latest. I think someone will be getting a kick up the bum at least and maybe the depot that were unable to be contacted during the drama as well. It will be interesting to see if/when I get a reply.

Just out of interest, does total care cover the caravan as well?
Yes total care does cover the caravan. I have NRMA total care and used it on the van last week at Inskip Point QLD. (jammed van brakes) they were there in 30 minutes and we were off 10 minutes later.

The size and weight limits on the van are for their towing gear etc. I've seen several little 4WD or whatever tugs on the tilt tray with the van in tow, pulling into van parks. Those little tugs just don't like those big, heavy vans, and eventually the transmissions conk out. All the best and good on you for speaking up.

Hi everyone, I have posted this on other forums and as i am a "New Boy" on this forum I would like to state the facts about RACV Road Side assistance. If your vehicle breaks down & you have your van on the back depending on the size of your van, you may not be entitled to a tow for your van. If your van is longer than 22 feet from coupling to the rear...you will be eligible for a tow by the contractor at your expense,,,,the RACV will not pay. RACV clearly state in their pamphlett concerning their various covers (Whether it is the basic or full assist) as outlined. So, if your van has an external measurement greater than perhaps 17'6".....add on at least 4 feet for A frame & if you have a rear bar & or a spare wheel attached you will be over the conditions as oulined by the RACV. They state you will have to enter into an agreement with the towing contractor whom basically sub contracts to the RACV. I do not know about other manufacturers but Mitsubishi Motors Aust. Limited provide roadside assist to all new vehicle purchasers.....this cover..is the basic roadside service in the respective state. As stated earlier on...weight of the van is also a condition too. If you are concerned.....measure your van's length from coupling to the rear (Including spare wheel & rear bar if you have one on the rear) if you are over 22 feet......you, like me have a problem if the tug breaks down.
