These photo's are from one of my cousins in Mitchell. For those who Haven't seen the Maranoa River, it's very very deep. I'm told it's the fastest flowing river in Australia.

The flooding is getting so bad up there again this year. You just wonder whats going to go under next.
I remember my son having trouble getting back to Biggenden from here a year ago about this time.
Thank goodness I'm not heading north at the moment and anybody who are, please be careful. Keep safe.

Thanks Beth. That gives us a good picture of what happens out there when it gets wet.
The country is so flat, and that black soil takes up the water and becomes a slimy, sticky mess. It will take a long time to dry out this time as it's still pretty wet from the last lot before Christmas.
The people must be sick of it, the councils and road department must be sick of it.
I hope everyone experiences minimal damage and impact. Those communities are good at working together and supporting each other.

I certainly don't like travelling at this time of the year. Too hot, and too wet usually.

The photo with the bottle trees in, those railings are the bridge. An amazing amount of water.

Very true CG. This particular cousin works for the council, so is keeping abreast of the situation. She has a boat ready if the water gets too close.

They love the rain in the west, but not this much. They've had enough.

Cattle trapped by floodwaters at "Mackinlay", 40km north of Mitchell, swim to safety. The property has recorded 242mm of rain in the four days to February 2, 2012. (Margaret Maudsley)

They do it because they're "heroes". 4WD, lots of power, and no brains.
They risk their own lives, the lives of their passengers and everyone else who has to pull them to safety. Selfish, inconsiderate wankers.

I was really surprised there was nothing on the news here tonight about it. I watched 10 at 5pm and 7 at 6 pm. Nothing on either.

Mitchell has been declared a disaster zone this morning. Cousin is still in her home, but is almost surrounded with water.

Another cousin in Lismore will have flooding in her paddocks, but the house should be okay.

Aww Bill, you thought you were getting away from the rain by going south! biggrin

Bill, You've certainly picked the wrong time to be coming south, didn't you.

A lot of rain and floods to get through before you ever get to the sunshine state of Victoria. lol

I stayed at that caravan park in August - and there was a huge gap between the river and the bridge.  I wouldn't be surprised to find the spa was under water.

By the way, the weather in Victoria is great at the moment and no rain!!  Good time for visitors - cool at night and warm during the day.biggrinbiggrin

I saw an aerial photo of Mitchell this morning, and the spa was okay, but it wasn't far off, so I'd say it's gone under too.

Esmerelda, I was trying to work out how deep that river bed is, but I'm not good with estimating such things. But yes, it's a long way to the bed.
