Home Again

The rig went well  as stated, no problems. Next trip is likely to be very extended, like closer to 2 or 3 years so something a little more substantial. I have located a small bus alredy converted to motorhome configuration complete with 5 metre Fiama awning, low kilometre diesel engine. A few little other touches to be made and it will be great.  The knee is repairing itself again so a little care over the next few months should see it right.

Well, one week short of six months on the road and I'm home. A little sooner than I had anticipated due to a dickie knee playing up but holding together til I got home. The trip itself was uneventful and no major dramas. It covered all terrains that Australia had to offer( within the constraints of a 4x2 rig) with no problems.

Total distance travelled was 18,648kms with only one mechanical failure, that being the rear shock absorbers lost the upper and lower bushes, no doubt due largely to the many kilometres of unsealed roads, corrugated and dusty that I travelled. Replaced these in Townsville at a cost of $770 fitted for a set of 4 top quality units.

Other expenses that came along were a replacement 12/240v engel fridge, and a new regulator for the solar system.

Site costs varied from zero to $35 /per night unpowered (Karratha). Major stops were Cleaverville beach (2 weeks $45 /week) Townsville (3 weeks) and Yeppoon (6 weeks)

I think the most memorable drive was the Monaro hiway to Cooma and then onto the Snowy Hiway over to Bega. What magnificent country!

Would I do it again?   YES!

Once I catch up with maintenance on the house I will be off again!  Different rig, Nissan and Camper will be sold, and will take a different route

Sorry about your knee Bob....but what a great experience you've had!

Hope that your knee problems are soon fixed and another rig found and purchased so that you can get back on the road again.

Cheers.

Pam.

Welcome back to WA Bob. Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. Why are you going to change your rig? I thought it looked pretty special.

That bus sounds just the thing! Glad to hear the knee is repairing itself and you will be on the road again. I'm really missing travelling but will be a while before I get away, house maintenance etc but will get back out there!

Jo
