Day 4 of our dream

Today marks the 4th day of our initial trip around Australia, we left Miners Rest Victoria Tuesday afternoon, as we were only travelling to Avoca to have our computers sorted out, for the big trip. Nice and clean CP there. We have now ventured to SA and are camping on the Magnificent Murray River at a little town called Walker Flat.  (Camps Australia Book 6 No.230.) It is a lovely part of the river, we are well travelled with the Torrumbarry/Echuca part of the river, but this is an outstanding section compared. We will stay here for a few days, before exploring the coast and the york and eyre peninsula's. If anybody out there has been on a free camp that would be suitable for 30' motor home with 20'trailer we would be interested in knowing where as we wish to free camp as much as possible. It has taken near 7 years to get to this point and I am still pinching myself. This site has some very friendly and helpful members aboard. I will look forward to communicating with you all as we travel this great land. I am not very computer literate at this stage so havent put up photo of our motor home yet, but if you see a big red/white motor home with a Wallaby and Aussie flag with the writing On The Wallaby on it please introduce yourselves.

Yes Doug, I guess the hubbie will think that also as we get into this trip. We can always offload if it gets too much though.

Theres always plenty of room out at Greens Lake. You could park a train and all of LinFox and still have enough room. Toilets available and water front views. Just out of Elmore Victoria.

No, I wish. There really is so much room you can't see the campers down the other end. Its a great call in over night spot for anyone travelling through.

Marj is their unofficial promotions officer and local tourist info centre all in one.
I haven't camped out Walker's Flat way but my dad had property at Sedan and a house at Swan Reach in that vicinity of the Murray. It is looking absolutely wonderful now after running to a mud puddle during the drought and water theft of the other states.
I'm near Adelaide if you're in the vicinity of the north. PM me for more info.
The Yorke and Eyre Peninsula's have some great coastline and interior country. Unfortunately there are not many free camping areas. South Aus is not very generous in that department, but the ones they have seem to meet the needs of the frequent visitors.

Maybe its because I have done so many shakedown trips out to Greens and got something fixed everytime, one day I might be able to do the big trip and go a little further. lol

Better to iron out the creases before that big trip. You know what happened the first time.
You seem to have a handle on it now, so it should by all systems go when you're ready. Your avatar give me good memories of New Year. It's a good spot.

Walker Flat would have to be one of the best spots on the Murray, so peaceful and relaxed. I have a brother that lives there and I spend quite a bit of time there.  The free camps in SA, well most of them, are not that well maintained since the drought, no where near what is available down the east coast and in WA as far as I can see from postings. I am a newbie and havnt been to many of them yet tho.

Gidday GN,when on Yorke penninsular give Point Julia a go,there is a good camp ground with flush toilets,we were last there 1 1/2 years ago and it was $5.00 per night. Not sure where Walker flat is but if you still have to go through Berri do yourself a favour and free camp along the banks of Lake Bonney, great spot for a few days !!!
We are also doing the big lap,a 5-7 year plan, and are currently staying at the Tanunda caravan park (in the heart of the Basrssa valley) till late April. We have both secured work at a large winery for the current vintage.
Pop in and say hi if you get the chance
Regards
John

I'm hoping to find something just as good and free while up in Qld for the winter, haven't worked it out yet but sure there would have to be just as good a spot.

Well John, Fly Boy, you're in another nice park run by nice people, in a nice region.
I visited rellies up there last Sunday, and I've stayed in the park. Don't forget to feed the possums by the amenities block at night.
If you head down the Northern Expressway via the Gomersal Road to Adelaide, call in for a cuppa at the Highway 1 Park at Bolivar.
That invite applies to anyone in this vicinity. I'm not hard to find and all GN's are always welcome as some have already found out.
That's the good stuff about this nomadding business. All those friends we have or haven't met yet.
