jockey wheel(s)

Not contradicting what Wombat says as he's quite right when it comes to manoeuvring the van, however I find the second jockey wheel (actually in my case it has a plate where the wheel is normally mounted) handy for giving me additional reach (or lack thereof) when levelling the rig on sloping ground. I can lower the drawbar to where the hitch is almost sitting on the ground.

PS: Welcome to the forum,

Jim

We bought a 2nd hand caravan which had 2 jockey wheels included.  One we use as normal when the van is in situ;  the other one is with a heavy tyre and a tube, which we use when we need to put the van in a tight space/turn without the car attached.  Now what I need to know: do we use the jockey wheel with the tyre on it's own or can the 2 jockey wheels be used in tandem.  My argument is that only one jockey wheel can be used at a time as one would hamper the  mobility of the other.

I could do with one of those  .. sick of digging holes to allow me to attach the jockey wheel.

Try one of these - http://www.allstatestrailerspares.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=54&products_id=922&osCsid=2bbe90b94dcc9426968381805587eabc

Shorter ones are available.

That's the one I have, I find it very handy.

My normal jockey wheel is one of those ratchet types with a handle to help moving the rig. I have the ratchet one mounted in a swing-over bracket so I don't need to remove it for travelling but it is removable for storage.
