RE: Caravan steps

Gunnado bought one of them in Darwin.  Supposed to hold quite a heavy weight, but I can't remember off-hand how much.  He's a big man, and I sent him the info on it, as I knew it would hold his weight OK.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Remember Jimricho posted a photo of a grey folding step which collapsed when not on even ground? We had one of those, always carefully placed it so it didnt wobble... and the b****y thing actually broke when my partner stepped on it causing him to fall. furious(No damage to him except his dignity luckily).

You've got a good memory Gert!

Unfortunately I suffered more than loss of dignity, a broken fibula as well! took 6 months to heal.

This is the step in question...

Here is the step I replaced it with...

As I've taken the liberty of using Caravansplus images I'll give them a plug: Check out http://caravansplus.com.au/catalog/index.php?cPath=256_1017&osCsid=8c36fea518e8c8e8fa01e6b39c7750a5 for a range of steps. They also stock the pull out steps that are attached to the van. I have dealt with this company and found they are very prompt and reliable with their orders.

(Use of Caravans Plus images is acknowledged)

I have step number 1 in the car for my mum to get in and out - she is short and can't make into my tug - she is also nearly 83. But for the van I have a Fiamma step similar to step number 2 - it came with the van - and it is very stable.

Cheers, Helen

Use the folding step for a foot stool when sitting reading your book.
I have one of the green steps similar to the caravan plus step, but it's too high for stepping down. I had no trouble stepping up, but down is another thing when my back is at it's worse, such as recovering from surgery.
A friend in Broome made me an aluminum step the length of the van doorway and as wide as the length of my shoes, with steel legs. I put chair leg bases into the legs and placed them on furniture bases so they don't dig into the ground.
The storage box step is a good idea as long as it doesn't get too heavy to lift into the van on departure.

The storage box idea sounds good. I couldn't have it too heavy, but the lighweight stuff that Wendy mentioned would be okay.

No our box  ist to heavy after we ready to go we just lift in on to the van step it fits perfect there I have had a fall and have had two operations on my hip so things have to be firm to step on to, we have it painted to match the colour off the van and a none slip strip on the top
