Why are caravans white?

Would probably have something to do with heat.  White reflects and black attracts, or so I am led to believe.

We are thankful that our van has smoothish sides which makes it much easier to clean.  I am glad we don't have that "weatherboard" effect.

We too find tree sap a problem.

Why, oh Why, are most caravans white?

We got home from an express trip to Melbourne with a filthy tug and caravan after driving through rain on the highway. Have been cleaning it today, it seemed to take hours, and so many little things like tree sap cause stains etc. bleh

Somehow the red dust of Western Australia was never this filthy! smile

Yeah, I was glad of fibreglass smoothness too, but even so, its not a little job. Hadnt thought of heat reflectivity. Ta!

Hello gerty, Apparently someone asked Julia the same question ?? so she commisioned Yet Another, '' university computor modeling'' to find the answer ?? and they came up with the reason !!! that most of the caravans are White,, Because they are not any other colour !!!

I think the University she used is the same one, that done the computor modeling that found out that it would not rain anymore, and our Dams would never be full again [ lol ]

I would think that white caravans are also easier to see on the road. They do also reflect the heat. Black cars are always hotter.

They are white because if they weren't white they would be another colour.

I have a white vehicle and find it looks cleaner when darker cars seem to attract the dirt. I'm glad mine is white for that reason.

Even English vans are white though aren't they so would they need it for the same reason? confuse

If she wanted to, I would let Ma paint our caravan pink.




As long as it was only the undercoat and I'd finish off the job with good old white.

Mine's not white -- sort of a light beige or darkish cream - but definitely not white.

Coramel tried the gold/bronze colour but it's not all that popular.
White is the preferred option because of the heat reflection and visibility factor.
I don't like the gold/bronze colour.
White actually looks cleaner longer, and looks better when it is actually clean.

Hylda has asked the same white caravan question since we got one. I think ours needs a repaint after our last trip so maybe we'll go for a nice peach or salmon colour.

Our caravan is a bugger to clean as it has a rough surface which Hylda calls a ''stipple' effect. After travelling the red bulldust areas of Aus I had to get stuck into it with a scrubbing brush.

Very good question, White does,nt show scratches as much, and is cooler in the sun, But Black cools much quicker in the shade than white. Carnt see me coming home at night " after a few" and trying to find a black van..
So maybe thats why they are white as well, just a thought....
