fuel log app

I have an Acer Iconic a a501 tablet and I have downloaded an app from the android marketplace called fuel friend it cost $2.98 and it is a great app for travellers who want to calculate fuel cost for their trip. It gives a monthly average of liters per hundred km amount spent and distance travelled

While I'm conscious of fuel costs and the impact on my dwindling budget, the last thing I want to do is calculate consumption.
I set my budget according to my income and destination and just go. Apart from fuel and food my needs are few.

Thats what I've decided too CG. If I run out of fuel and money I stop. Thats me till next payday. Give too much of a headache trying to calculate all this stuff.

Blue does a quick calculation on every time we top or fill up and so long as it is within the parameters of what we expect given whether we are towing or not and if it's windy or not then we are happy.

If it is over and above the expectation then we will worry.  We are here for a good time not a long time and the stress of things sure would shorten the good time.

I calculate every tank refill.

Not because I am concerned about the cost, but I am interested in the health of my vehicle.

Since reurning from Queensland last year I have noticed an increase in fuel consumption.

It's only .5 - .75 a litre pr 100km.  Doesn't sound like much, does it?

But, it is slowly increasing.

This has led me to a faulty engine component that could eventually cause more ongoing damage to the engine.

Replacement cost of part is about $80-$100, engine overhaul $5,000-$7,500 minimum.

Even a slight leak in a fuel line would be detected IF you know what's going on.  But if you don't care and just fill up as required, how would you know?

A slight fuel leak can lead to a fire or explosion.

The other half has a spreadsheet he devised for fuel calculations, a few reasons he does this.

1/ and most important, he is anal.  (you know what I mean Ma)

2/ When we travel he likes to calculate where he will go for fuel etc. Just his

     fun way of doing things.

3/ Bit like Dusty, he keeps a good eye on his vehicle as well.

4/ When we changed vehicles or vans, he sees the changes in fuel consumption and works boy stuff out from that.

Don't ask me what, its secret mens business from what I have worked out. rofl.gif

We work out fuel consumption, not to fuss over, but just to be aware of how different roads and conditions affect the vehicle. Also handy to watch outgoings against income. It gives me something to do while I'm a passenger apart from gaze out the window at the never-ending scenery!

I use one called fuel Log on my Android phone. I only use the free version, but it does everything I need from it. Apparently the paid version has a few extra bells and whistles. It allows you to do partial refuells as well and averages that with the next fillup.

Graph of last 10 refuells, the paid version does more I think.

Averages for fuel consumption. You can also add other costs such as oil, filters, servicing etc but I don't bother with that part.

THE ROCK was invented on another forum and has flowed on here.

It is a fictitious place where all those (male of course) who don't agree with us (females if course) are banished.

Firefly and I are the "governors" and say who goes and who gets out.

It's just all a bit of fun really, OH, and don't forget your alfoil beanie.

Don't think the Lycra suit will help all that much.

I'm sure Blue will go into more detail when he recovers..;......nono

THE ROCK (note, it is spelt in capital letters) is a safety refuge for men who, with no intent of causing upset, insult, embarrassment or being sexist, make an innocent comment that is missunderstood by those of the fairer sex.

Unlike "the doghouse", "THE ROCK" is suitably furnished with wide screen, plasma TVs permanently tuned to all the sports channels available, eskies full of cans next to every lounge chair, plenty of remote controls, very large lounge chairs that are very easy to fall asleep in while watching TV and sufficient carpet for the deposit of discarded socks, jumpers and any other clothing not yet dirty enough to place in the washing machine.

There are no rules when under sentence to "THE ROCK" regarding wiping or taking muddy shoes off before entry, listening to every word said and trying to determine what was left unsaid nor is there a rule about the position of the toilet seat.

Oh, make sure none of the ladies of the fairer sex see this, they think its a place of punishment..

You can hide behind THE rock, but you can't hide anything in a lycra suit. The rock wins.

You may call it a safety refuge. I'd call it "where we know where to find you", no matter what the circumstances.
But, if you want to call it the safety refuge, you go right ahead.
We girls know.

Now to this fuel counting thing.
Unfortunately the signage on the roof changes things considerably. Not so bad when it's down, in a tail wind. When it's up in a head wind makes the fuel needle drop fairly rapidly.
The mileage is better with the caravan than with the sign. I just know when consumption is acceptable or excessive.
I did a check on day 1 out of Broome in 2007 on the road to Pt. Hedland, which is a good test.

We sure do Granny and if they like to think of it as a refuge then they are welcome to their false sense of security....biggrin
