I'll bet the Taliban have him on their hit list to try to kill him for their propaganda purposes, he's such a large target too, which even makes him even more heroic knowing that the enemy had more chance of hitting him than a smaller man.

Yep they will have him in their sights alright, let's hope he comes out unscathed.

No one "wins" the VC. It's awarded, and as previously stated, post-humously more often than not. This guy put his peers before his own safety and life. In the interview with him on Sunday night he was certainly very humble in his achievements and being awarded the VC for his actions. His story will live on. The Circle probably will not.

I really cannot understand what it is with some people that makes them want to tear others down.
The part that fascinates me the most is that more often than not, the nastiest comments come from the ones who usually haven't achieved very much themselves.
As far as I'm aware, nobody ever awarded a medal to a critic! (Thankfully!)
I find that amazing too Pam, this tall poppy syndrome is alive and well. If anyone does good lets bring them down a peg or two. Can't have them feeling good about themselves and their achievements, they might actually be normal and proud of themselves. lets make sure we give them a few hard knocks so they don't get a big head. Its very sad.

The term VC winners is very frequently used CG although you are correct in saying it is an award, but it depends on whether or not someone wants to be pendantic.
If you search VC Winners you will see many examples of this term being used. This is just one example;
"Benjamin Roberts-Smith you went to Afghanistan a soldier, you came back a hero," Prime Minister Julia Gillard said.
His elevation to the ranks of VC winners happened during his fourth tour to Afghanistan at a village called Tizak in Northern Kandahar province. There, on June 11, 2010, he single-handedly neutralised two enemy machinegun positions and exposed himself to fire to protect his mates."
So yes, on one hand you are correct it is an award, but the term winners is also in common use.

I'm with Wombat on this one . Sack them both and axe the show .
Negus has always been up himself and a very ordinary reporter . I don't know anything about the other slapper , and don't want to .
John Laws tried to phone channel 10 several times yesterday , but they weren't answering the phones . Their management must be as gutless as their reporters .

You are right about Channel 10 management. They should have stepped in immediately with a simple, direct and proper on-air apology. But no, they decided to tough it out, diminish what was said and spin for sympathy for the offenders as the victims instead. That was obvious on the other awful show The Project later on the day, where the hosts were unashamed apologists for the offenders and concerned about Stymes who said she was now upset and she was engaged(!).
Good on ordinary Australians for standing up and saying NO, not good enough! The embers haven't died down either, Channel 10 is still getting calls and so they should.
