RE: tingles from the van

Look out for those tingles from the van, you will find its a bad earth, check it at the plug on the van and socket or the plug that goes into the house, thats all it can be.

Safe travel

Mr Glassies

Reference the tingles.   I had the same problem on our first Jayco.   The problem turned out to be a faulty female plug on the lead that connects to the van.

Had the sparkie check the electrical cord and found a couple of copper wire strands had detached from their position and shorted across each to the other within the connector, causing the whole van to be live.   Scarey situation.   Had no further problems with the lead.

I suggest you check there first.   It may save you a lot of heartache and dollars.

update on tingles

i rang the accc today and they suggested i write to the dealer and tell them the problem and wait to see what reply we get as they arnt allowed to give legal advice .

so i did that at 930 am today . we went to brisbane to the doctors and got home 430 pm and guess what no reply and no phone call through the day . della is going to send another email just checking to see if they got it as now we have set emails to advise if there opened . if this dosnt work in 5 days i will ring them and probably let fly i mite even ring the van builders and tell them how there dealers are treating sails of there brand of van as they are dealers for retreat vans.

ok now for a different story

della has to have radiation for 4 weeks 5 days a week
she has to go down for another meeting then after that she gets zapped
fingers xd this will clear her

 Ditto from me.

best wishes,

Jim

PS: Have you definitely eliminated the extension cord as being the cause of the tingles problem?  Have you had it checked or have you tried a different extension cord?  It may not be the cause but it is definitely the first "line of attack".

You will need to able to prove that the fault is within the rig and not due to some external cause such as the cord or house wiring if contemplating consumer action. Maybe http://www.fairtrading.qld.gov.au/ would be the first "port of call" rather than ACCC.

Strongly suggest paying the extra for the model with the "safety switch". The cheaper one in the ad does not appear to include this.

In the first instance don't blow your top with the dealer, try to hold back and get things done nicely, always the better option, BUT if after a specified time then write to the dealer (snail mail) and register it, this way you will know they have received it.

Some on here are suggesting to change the lead, as that has worked for other memebers, have you tried that?

We are all thinking of Della, hope all goes well over the next 4 weeks.

hi guys n gals
im getting a bit frustrated over this . we sent an email yesterday no reply. we sent another and its got an alert to let us know its been read yes it has. and you guessed it no reply. iv rung fair trading and its a grey area they cant tell me if there liable or not . i even rang the electrical safety commission even they talked grey area.but i was told not to get it fixed and send them the bill to give them the chance to do it.
i even sent an email to the main retreat dealer in vic not telling who i bought it of but told them the problem and asked if they herd of it and if they knew a fix for it .
i was told to wait 7/10 days before acting any more and that will work in with my other issues if i need to make a noise . im not a trouble maker but after spending that much money i wouldn't expect to spend more to make it safe. time will tell.

yea wombat ive tried that even tried different power outlets . im starting to hope a big wind will blow it away and we can get a nother one.

funny thing as i was getting ready to go to work tonight i got a call from the electrical safety council and they want to come and test the van as a potential hazard .

and wile at work i had a good talk to 1 of the sparkeys there and i asked y the rcd switch didnt go of and he recons its probably betwen the lead plug and the rcd but couldnt work out y it didnt set of the house one . its suposed to take 30 m amps or m volts to set it of so mabe the length of the lead had something to do with it.

anyway im happy someone is starting to get involved in my problem . how far they can go for me only time will tell.

the main thing to do is KEEP ALL PAPERWORK, and try to get everything in writting, ie don't give out your phone number

Mr G, just seen this on tv last night, just keep the links and hope that you can get your problem fixed without using these site's, I have not use these site's but thought they maybe of help if you cannot resolve your problem with the dealer. the first one is free

if they find anything wrong ask them what action they can take.

also get their report in writing and send it to the ACCC again asking for advice, or better still send a copy to the dealer's head office and ask them what they intend to do about it, this is all assuming they find something wrong.

Don't you have a time frame where you can change your mind. I thought this was mandatory in all states of Australia. The same as in a super market. If it does not fit the purpose you bought it for then you can return.

Threaten to take it back and want your money refunded, that might get some results.

If it is unsafe then it does not fir the intended purpose so you should be within your rights.

Don't start your travels with something you are not happy with as it will ruin your travels.

Regards
Brian
