Sorry Jules now I've gone off topic, Vic and JRH made me do it biggrin

Windows 7 would be hard to beat, best one yet I recokon and I've tried them all since 3.1. I will be in no hurry to upgrade.

Thanks guys - it is the fourth one I have had - knew it was a scam - but feeling a bit "vulnerable" at the moment - do these people not respect the "do not call" register - or what?
And one thing I love about this site is the fact that no matter what is being talked about, someone will go "off topic" - and nobody really cares, just join in - great stuff!!

Going off topic is the specialist skill of JRH and that Wombat.  If ever there's a topic to go off of, they will find a way of going off it.  They have it down to a fine art.

It's entertaining, and at time hilarious, so what ever you 2 do, don't stop, do not pass go, and whatever you do, do not collect $200.

As for your privacy and confidential stuff Jules, it looks like that's gone out the window.  Just keep those curtains closed is all I can recommend.  You just never know when one said Wombat or the offsider of Wombat, JRH will be lurking, and I believe if there's any lurking to be done, these 2 are the expert lurkers as they also have lurking down to a fine art.

I got a call from them on Sunday afternoon. In my best "no understand english proper good"voice, I kept asking him when he can come clean my windows, need cleaning now, asked if he can supply water and washing stuff, when he tried to interrupt I kept telling him how dirty my windows were and needed him to come my place plenty quick.

I don't think he understood how dirty my windows were.

Edit.  He never rang back after we were suddenly disconnected.

Anyone here know a good window cleaning mob.

That's very clever Blue.  Talk about the pun of all puns, and the ambiguity to beat all ambiguity.  Poor little foreign scammer must have wondered what the hell you were talking about.  Bewdy!

I just love our real English language. LOL

I was around at the retirement village visiting my Mum a couple of weeks ago and this call came through. I took the phone from Mum and answered in a like voice stating that I could only see cars out of the window, reply was "Nooo, you computer, bad virus", no I went to the Dr and there is no virus I all good, "Nooo, your windows has virus" No only cars out my window, nice day, " Noooo, you no understand your computer has a virus, need fixing", I don't have a puter, only have typewriter, window need cleaning not see cars so good. I don't know what I said wrong but the poor girl hung up on me. I thought Mum was going to wet herself, so far she has not had any more calls, but I am sure they will come again.
When we lived in Brisbane my techie son use to take the call and keep them on the line forever, baffling them with science and we stopped getting the calls. As somebody else on here said, leave the line open and they will stop.

SCAM!!!!!!!!!!

CG, you left out Vic, he is better than us two, I could use the $200 for passing go.

We had exactly the same type of call tonight at 6.15pm, just when busy with Dinner. Thanks to this thread was able to know straight away it was a scam. They were not happy when I said that I would check it out myself. Thanks Glenda

I don't know why you folk want to play games with these crims when all the experts advise: tell them nothing, hung up immediately. You're not just having a bit of fun with a nuisance telemarketer, you're conversing with a seriously criminal person.

Cut and paste from the Scamwatch website http://www.scamwatch.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/792165 ... (quote) If you receive a phone call out of the blue from someone about your computer systems security status, hang up. (end quote)

When I had my call a month or so ago, I told the caller that she was part of a scam and should be ashamed of herself - and then hung up.  Microsoft do not call people.

It seems that the trio from the west has it in hand. I'm not saying what they have in hand. It's just in hand, and we GN's should just relax in the knowledge those 3 from the west have it in hand.
These little Asian scammers think we westerners are so dumb and an easy target for a rip off.
Even calling Telstra, if I divert them from their script they get confused. Their English skills aren't too good, and taking them away from the scripted procedure, they're stuffed.
They also have a tendency to be arrogant, know-it-alls, and don't like to be told.
Keep up the good scammer fight fellow GN's. Spread the word.

absolute scam. I tried hanging up on them, asking if they thought we were stupid.... then I decided to ask for their phone number and one hung up on me - the other 'nice' lady gave me her number and said she was from the States when I asked (cant remember where).  Finally let one talk for ages and then said thanks - we have a tap on your phone now - never had another problem
