Oh Dear, have no idea how this crap started, but Ma please come back, you have been very generous with your advice, and you genuinely CARE about people, animals and the environment, your knowledge and kindness sustained me over such a rocky time, including Milo, Elle , Cruising Granny, and Happy Wanderer, oh gosh there is so many of you that make up the tapestry of this fantastic caring helpful column.

We are all different, and thats what makes it work.

I dont know what happened to make you decide to opt out, perhaps just take a break, and come back refreshed, Bill12 mentioned his family motto, take heed of that hun.

You have a lot of mates on this forum. Take care. Lynette and Howard Hall

When commented on the National Parks thread about posting invalid rubbish http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t48117214/national-parks-and-caravans/ recieved a PM from a member "Maybe you need to get a life pal, some people enjoy a bit of fun you obviously are so miserable you want to drag everyone else down to your misery level."  Interestingly received 3 other PM's supporting my post about offtopic rubbish posted by some that they may find amusing but others dont.

Been in Ma's position myself a while ago, and on this Forum.  I came back after a break, so maybe she will too.  Hope so.

Cheers,

I have to say I was most taken aback by your comments here Paul.
If I start a thread and it goes off topic and I am not happy with the direction it takes, I would make a comment such as "can we get this back on track please guys?"
Never would I let it get to the sickening stage and the majority of the time, in amongst that rubbish, many a problem is solved simply because it did go off topic.
As for snide smart#*@ comments, I tend to ignore what I don't like because when its all said and done, its my personal interpretation of what I have read and maybe not necessarily what the crux of the comment was about.
Like someone said earlier, its hard to guage what a person means without hearing a voice tone or a facial expression. The emoticons add that as much as they can.
If I had an abusive PM from a member, I would block them from being able to PM me in the future.
Other than that, last time I looked, we had a Moderator on this forum who will guide any member that needs such help.
And one more thing while I am at it, I read your comment on the National Park thread and to me you sound horribly rude and condescending, thats a shame. All members here a valued.
To jump on this thread, about a valued member just to voice your own agenda is also off putting.
You have a nice day now Paul. wink

They are salt of te earth people, lets not have more valued members leave and encourage ma to come back. To Paul Merryman, I think you are out of place and dont read any of your post, please lighten up and do as oter sugest, if you dont like the way a post is going, dont read it.

Gerty we were all having a bit of fun until Paul Merryman stuck his oar in, as far as I am concerned we should now just ignore him and get on with the good side of the forum.

Please don't you consider pulling out now.

I hope we can leave this alone now and move forward positively. I have said it before and I will say it again. This is, above all, a forum where I hope everyone can come and enjoy a friendly welcome and talk about various issues in a respectful manner. Of course, there will occasionally (or often) be differences of opinion but we generally manage to steer clear of personal attacks or name calling. It does nobody any credit. This is a place where all are welcome ... whether they post a lot, a little, or not at all. Of course, the site is mainly designed for grey nomad lifestyle related topics but it has always been a place where people have also enjoyed good natured banter and a little bit of fun. At the suggestion of one of our long-time members, I think it might help if I introduced a 'fireside chat' or similar forum area where people can talk about any topic they like (apart from politics or religion, please!). I certainly don't want that to mean there is no room for banter or fun in other areas as well. There is, and always will be. Perhaps the new 'fireside' area will give us a bit more balance though. Fingers crossed. Please, if anybody has any issues or concerns, PM me. I would rather be made aware of problems before they fester.

Fair comments Cindy.

I like the idea of the fireside chat, that would be a great addition.

Things do get off topic but thats what makes it fun and if the fun was gone, I don't think there would be as many regular posters as their is.

That is just my opinion of course. wink

When reading and replying to a topic I tend to treat it the same as a conversation at happy hour and all conversations meander along with off topic comments.

If I have been mistaken in this I am sure someone will put me on the right track, I have no desire to be a disruptive influence but I do like to have a bit of fun also.

I think the bottom line here is if anyone has a complaint either about a thread, post or a poster, then pm Cindy and let her sort it out.

Making a public post on here only tends to lead to agro amongst members and as we can see the loss of some.

So if you feel a post or poster are not what you think it should be then leave them alone and send a private (pm) message to Cindy to air your complaint, if she thinks it is out of order or shouldn't be on there she will remove it.

That's what I would suggest, keep the public forum area friendly, remember a lot of new, potential members or visitors view this forum including those from overseas..

That's my 5c  worth.......

I some times get a little frazzled when a thread goes off topic , and theres other bantering going on etc
but thats life on the net and on forums, you get that.
And I too had a heck of a time with a certain post a few months back that drove me nuts
but i let it go, its part of net life, this site is by far the most mild forum site ive been on .
Ive seen some nasty stuff and dont want to see it here.. I think Cindy runs a tight ship
and for that im greatfull , my last words , Ma , please come back.. Id send you some flowers if i knew where
to send them...

 What a great idea.

Feet up, glass of red and a chat at the fireside.

Gets my vote.

Well look what happens when I'm away, talk about out of control! "laughing:

Seriously though, I love this site! Sure, sometimes, there's a thread that gets annoying, but I just don't read it anymore. I move onto something else.

As for Ma, I have no idea what happened either, but I think she has been a valued member and I'm really going to miss her imput. But it's up to her if she decides to come back.

Don't let the bas***ds bother you Elaine!

Like it or not... as the years have gone by, a lot of us on this forum have become," Forum Buddies"!!!!! Serious, if need be, funny, if need be, comforting, if need be.....Helpful, if need be, but......always there if NEEDED!!!!!! Have you noticed? Even when some one is in need of someone to talk to at 2am, you can talk to your friends on this forum.
All those people, not interested in joining this diverse group of people, pleaseeeeeeeee, Bugger Off. Don't destroy a forum so rare, because of a few. PLEASE.
Cheers Dellie

I think Cindy said she may add one, I don't think she has done so yet, probably has to get her forum provider to add the section, just have to wait to see if it does eventuate......

Hey- lets get it straight.

This forum is like Happy Hour conversations- starts out simple, and people add to the conversation, and it all flows along. Sometimes it involves one topic, and another will meander in as comments are made along the way. Some folk talk a lot, some are a bit shy and talk a little, and some just have another drink.

The is really no such thing as "Off topic" in a conversation.

Lot's of folk inject humour, challenge or bits of rubbish and/or plain bad taste, but that's how it goes. Its just banter. But on the whole you find here that people welcome newbies, genuinely care about the welfare of each other, respond to requests and questions, and give the best advice based on experience. Occasionally, you'll find bias and predjudice, but that's in any happy hour too.

This is not parliment, with the Speaker insisting Westminster Rules. It's a community and it takes all sorts.

It helps to remember that this is written word, and thus we miss the vocal tones and body language which makes the writer's intent clearer.

Like any happy hour, if you get annoyed with the conversation, you have choices: start a row, go home, suck it up, or have another drink.

 Well said

I thought the days of personal attacks were long gone. This forum has been there, done that and it passed, like a good laxative.
It's a real shame we've sacrificed Ma because of an apparent constricted mind.
This section of the forum to me is the "fireside chat" section.
If we have any specific issues there's the techies corner, the health section and the lone travellers (solos) section, and many others with which to inform and entertain ourselves.
The jovial banter is good for the soul, just as the serious, supportive consoling words are.
We are all in different places in our lives, and some of us can't get out as much as they'd like to, so they turn to the good old computer for company, communication, entertainment and information, and even a laugh or several.
We need to keep "larfing".
We share information, experiences, feelings and concerns here. If some of that comes with a smile, smirk or giggle, so be it.
Let's not take ourselves so seriously. I take this forum seriously, and with the spirit with which the posts are posted, be it fun or not.
Let's get over this and move one. I'm sorry it took the loss of a quality member to bring this stuff to the surface again.
If you receive personal messages from a fellow forum follower, they stay as that, PERSONAL. I don't want to know about it or the content. Then it stops being PERSONAL.

Thats what I was thinking when I read about a Fireside thread CG. I thought this was one.
If another thread is to be introduced, maybe a Hot Topic thread where if anyone wants to talk about something irrelevant to Nomading they could go there. If you don't like it, don't go in at all.

I have never had the pleasure of meeting you personally but I always read your input to this forum. You will very much missed by all on this forum and like everybody else I hope you reconsider.
