Yep, we all loved McGooley, all settled down around the black and white TV, room full of smoke from dad''s ciggies, and mum in her apron.

Hi happywanderer, it was an australian show aired in the 1960's. set against a backdrop of sydney harbour, the wharfs and the family lived in a flat there. precious show. bits of it are on youtube. early television in Australia. not many people back then had a tv set, car, phone, or washing machine. We even had to pay for a tv and radio licence back then. Frank Thring was on an ad on tv saying "have you paid your licence yet" or something like that.to a child he was very scarey.. rocket n strop

Funny you should say that, we had to have yearly licence as well. That is well gone now. We got our first television when I was 16, in the mid 60s.
yes i remember those days, the van with the big "circle" type thingo on the roof would drive along and see which houses had a tv turned on then come in to check your tv license?? If you didn't have one you would be fined.
I just checked out the youtube clip, seems very funny. Maybe will come back as a rerun someday.

We got TV in 1959 for memory. I loved Friday nights, sitting on the floor in front of Zig and Zag with fish and chips.
1959 !!, wow, you were lucky I think my parents got tv around 1963 or 1964.
Saturdays at midday, I would sit with my older brother and our grandfather would come to visit ever saturday, we would be glued to the tele watching World Championship Wrestling.
My Grandfather used to get so angry at the bad guys, screaming at the tele "you mongrel", he would always bring a few bags of sugar coated popcorn. Killer Karl Kox was my favorite, (he died last year aged 80).

Ah, Killer Kowalski, still remember most of them. Spiros Arion, Bulldog Brower, Tex MacKenzie, Mark Lewin (loved his sleeper hold) Mario Milano, King Kurtis, Haystacks Calhoun, could go on and on.
Still "Killer Karl Kox, rules".
Even went to the old Sydney Stadium a few times to see the wrestling before it moved to the Horden Pavillion. Memories.
