I've got an Amaysim mobile for making phone calls, prepaid, no contract 15c a min calls, 12c for text, I only need a phone to make phone calls with, this does the job for me.

Havent heard of this one Wombat, who is the carrier & where are they available from.??

Do you have to buy the phone outright.?

JC.

If you do not have a spare phone you will need to buy one, all you do is go to Woolworths an buy a sim card for $2, then you can put $10 upwards on it and go from there, Optus is the Co

When you want to put more on just go back to woolies and they will give you a receipt, go home and input the number on the receipt and away you go, there are a lot of other places to upload money but with Woolies you get 4 months to use it the others you only get 3 months, if you put more money on before it runs out all money rolls over to the next 4 months.

Have a look at their site

No Jim. Its called tethering because it comes with a cord which you connect to your laptap and use as normal.

Thats the benifit of being able to share info, I did know of using the mobile as a modem, wasn't thinking that was what you meant.

Learn something every day.

Yes Jim, thats exactly what you would be doing, using your mobile as a modem. I will go into the Telstra shop during the week and see what deals they have.

I have a Nokia phone with PC suite and the phone also acts as a modem. Carrier TPG. Works well where I have at least one bar reception. Don't know what the costs are, son takes care of that. He has hooked me up with his account. Part of the deal seems to be the home phone which I pay for. Never make any calls on it just have to pay the rental which is about $100 for three months.

It will also work with your phones wifi or bluetooth capabilities, so it's pretty versatile. It may chew into your plans data allocation a bit though.
