I want to do the opposite. Pay as little as possible. Doing the same, moving to Qld end of this month. What are the fees like for a pensioner. I pay 106.00 every 6 months here in Vic.

Just been on Qld Roads. Couldn't find any prices but they only give you 14 days to change over. You've also got to buy your own Third Party Ins and show the receipt. looks like you also have to get roadworthy and gas compliance cert before registering.

HELP! We are about to purchase a house in QLD and have NSW licences plus car and caravan regos. We are both 'oldies' so in NSW we get one free rego each. What's the best way to get cheap rego/licences without going to jail?? Can you own and live a house in QLD but keep your interstate licence etc.
I've just paid my rego on my 4 cylinder car, I'm on DSP and it costs $501.90 for a year. I only pay 6 monthly as it's easier to find the lesser amount. It's $263.15.
That includes the CTP Insurance.

fees for a pensioner are nowhere near as good as nsw i can tell you that , but if you are that concerned you could ring the road transport only other way is to lie about where you live and give a nsw address
you must otherwise change your address over within three months could of changed for all i know
good luck with that , most people who live up here that are pensioners get used to it after moving from nsw i had two kids on my own on a part pension when i moved back here, was astounded that its no where near as cheap as nsw.
My car without any pension costs over 700 dollars to register for a year.
Yep! ACT very expensive too, even with a pension my car (a Mazda2) cost $544, without the pension it was over $700. Its a bugger but you just have to pay it.
Thanks for your input. We have thought about lying about it, but our new QLD address must go on our licence so they're bound to catch up. We've met a lot of people on the road over the past year who register their vehicles in WA even though they don't live there. They use a friend's address. Will be interested to hear from anyone else.
I'm an itinerant. I left WA in 2007 and haven't been back. I have an SA Drivers Licence, van and tug registered in WA with SA address. Because I'm full time in van they don't seem to care. At election time I don't vote in state elections, but I do have to vote in Federal elections. Once again, another issue for national registration and licences and share the money according to the percentage to the state.

The biggest problem you'll find is not to keep your car registered in other state while living in QLD, but find an insurer that agrees to pay you in case of a sinister. In any insurance policy there is a question about "Where is your vehicle GARAGED" asking for a post code, and only a handful of companies will honour the contract in case you are living in one state with your vehicle garaged in another, despite the fact all of them tell you you're covered Australia wide.
Note: Near all companies will cover you while you're travelling Australia, but only a few if you have your vehicle garaged in a different garage address. Stupid isn't it? Beside the registration and transfer or your vehicle, will also have to change your Driver's licence into a QLD one. My son has an almost brand new 4 cylinder car and pay around $ 600 rego per year, while we have a 10 years old 6 cylinder 4x4 and paid nearly $ 800 p/year. No discounts.
Also note that if your drive licence is from another state, you'll not be allowed to drive any Queensland government car or take any job (in a National Park for example) driving a Queensland vehicle unless you change your licence into a QLD one.
Telecoma and states Transport departments are something very difficult to understand. The Poly that changes these two will have my vote forever.
I have a bus registered in QLD and a trailer registered in SA.
My QLD registration is at a NSW address and when I get to SA I will transfer that to SA.
All you need is a receipt from SA to transfer over to SA and then you can register each year over the net. My old bus was in SA to a mates address and I reregister by internet.
SA has no inspection etc for under 4.5 tonne not sure on over that.
All they require is a copy of you old rego in your name and an address in SA. I bought a new phone and used that as an address. I also change my Drivers license etc as they gave me a new card as the old QLD was very ragged and they gave me an extra 5 years on what I already had.
Perhaps even worth a quick trip to SA if you feel that's what you need.
If asked why you have a SA rego in QLD just tell them you are a traveler and you are where you are for the time you want and then you will move on.
I had a good car from NSW when I moved to QLD and it had just done a new NSW rego and when I tried to transfer they would not register it. I had blown a steering pump and they said because there was evident of oil on the motor the whole motor had to be rebuilt as well no bull bar is allowed. You have to take it off and return to original and then after the inspection you can replace again. No haze in any glass is allowed and the car has to nearly better than perfect. I had to wreck a perfectly good car. Was not happy because once it is passed you can run till it falls to pieces.

Going by what you have just written beiffe I doubt that Qld will even want to register Myrtle. May have to leave all that at my daughters address here in Vic. I will be on the road a fair bit once I move up there.
