hi SamF. Welcome to our happy forum. Hopefully there is someone on here who would like to do this. I enjoy this forum, it is full of people such as yourself who come up with inovative ideas such as this one. good luck. rocket n strop
also, perhaps put this on the "general forum" - I tend to look there 10 times more than I look on this part.

We would like to travel but thought we should try it first. So are there people who would like a break from the road for awhile and would swap their rig for our apartment in Melbourne?
It might be a difficult question on a first date Sam .. For most on here, our "homes" are our lifestyles. While its a pleasant concept you seek, I can only speak for myself .. and its not something I would consider ..
I do wish you both well and we may see you on the road sometime ..
Have you thought about gumtree . What sort of time frame were you looking at. Some nomads have pets also. There is a lot of variants in the request. Sounds good. Also insurances etc. Would you just want a caravan, what vehicle have you for towing. ?
Hi Sam welcome to the forum. My thoughts are that you might be better hiring a rig, that way you can test drive something to suit your preferences and also not worry about any damage etc to someone's home.
if you do your research and go off season you will be able to negotiate a good rate especially if you are looking at an extended period.
Hi Sam.....I am not being rude but I have to say there is no way I would consider lending my rig to someone else....especially someone who it would appear has no previous experience.
Best idea is to hire one and I am sure you'll love the lifestyle.
Now, if you are looking for someone to house sit for you for a little while, then that is a different thing totally and I am sure there are many out there who might consider doing that for you.
Have alook around on the forum and you will find lots of info on house sitting.
In my humble opinion it is best to try out something simple first. Then if you are missing the TV and the shower and toilet, you can try something more expensive. I made the choice of going for a heavy off road rig with all the bells and whistles and while I don't regret it, when it comes to filling up the fuel tanks, I have been know to look enviously towards the couple with the camper trailer or the pop top. Everything is a compromise and everything has a price.
Hireing is a much better option IMHO, I would never lend, swap, my rig with anybody, however there maybe somebody who will, too many pit falls in my opinion.
It's a good idea if smoebody will do it but it's not for me.
Hope you haven't been put off travelling SamF. Vans are very 'personal' to their owners. We used to rent ours out at a fixed site for 2 weeks. Helped pay the rego etc but it never felt the same when we got it back so have stopped doing it. Towing someone else's tug may cause insurance problems. So as others have suggested - hire something for a short term trip and see how you like it. Friends just hired a motorhome and discovered they didn't like it so bought a caravan.
