Well girls and boys, the ear has been excised and repaired, and the local anaesthetic is just wearing off. OUCH!!!
She'll be right.
The crook bit was sliced off, and the skilled surgeon used a flap of skin from the back of my ear and folded over as a skin graft. I have a lot of dressing on it, and a pressure bandage around my head, so I look like I've got a major head injury, which I suppose is roughly right.
I might play this for the sympathy for a couple of days. What do you reckon?
The only problem is I don't have anyone to sook to. So I'll just have to tough it out all by myself. Sniff sniff. Poor widdle Cwissy.

Oh Chris you poor thing. Hope it doesn't hurt too much. Now, you should be up at Greens Lake, theres a few there who would give you a cuddle and some sympathy. Take it easy, don't sleep on that side tonight. Hope tomorrow comes out sunny and you start to feel better.
Thanks Marj. I could do with a cuddle, tea and sympathy. However ............... I have to make my own tea, I don't feel sorry for myself and cuddles a only in my imagination. I can still remember those things. Oh to relive those moments again. She'll be right!

Thanks for the thoughts Pam. I don't feel crook, it's just hurting that's all. But I have to move slowly. The ear has a lot of packing and dressing on it so I can't bump it etc. The thought of what the Dr did makes me feel a bit wobbly though. In a couple of days it will be ok. I can wait.

Thanks folks. The ear determines my level of movement. Not too much going on here. The pain killers I take for my back are really taking the edge of the ear pain as well. No point feeling sorry. I know what's causing the pain, and I know it will get better every day. So life goes on. I always feel sicker when I have pain I can't explain or a diagnosis I wasn't expecting. She'll be right!

Hope you are feeling on the up and up today. never nice to have to get these things done but you very brave. hope you are feeling a little better. rocket n strop
John spent a couple of days this week with pads over both eyes after having his eyelids 'trimmed' - they were drooping enough to interfere with his vision, especialy peripheral, which was not good for driving. The experience of being totally 'blind' for two days is not one he wants to ever repeat!
Now we wait a week for the stitches to be removed - ouch!
All of which is a lot less than your current situation; get well quickly!
Andrea

I think the eyes are more precious than the outside of an ear. I was blindfolded for 2 weeks when I had meazles and that gave me a taste of something I don't want if I can avoid it. Then I had lazer surgery for glaucoma which was actually easier. No blindfolds, just drops which contract the iris and makes everything appear as twilight. Kinda weird. I hope all goes well with the eye procedure when the stitches come out. Wow, some of the things life hands out to us as we mature to old age.

Hi Chris surgery on the ear is never pleasant because you get the sound effects as well and ears are very sensitive. The bandages they give you are very impressive and always good for sympathy from complete strangers - at least those ones who don't think you've had a lobotomy or similar, they tend to be a bit nervous around you. Hope you feel better soon and that you heal well. You can drown your sorrows in that lovely pavlova you'll be tucking into soon.
You're right Elle, I've played the sympathy "tune" for all it's worth. Someone asked me what the other bloke looked like, so when someone comments or asks, I just say, "You should see the other bloke!" I took the pressure bandage off this morning, so there's just the wound dressing now. Still worth a bit of sympathy I think. It's quite sore still, but I know it will go away by the end of the week. I'm glad it's not my leg or foot. I still have to walk a little slower because it hurts to walk too fast.

Its always fun to use the sympathy card. A couple of years ago I was at the Eumundi Market. Had my broken arm in a sling. The magician there with a crowd around him called over to me wanting to use me in his show as a volunteer. I called back No way, look what you did to me last time. Well, he didn't know what to say and the crowd roared. Made all the pain worth it.
Atta girl. Nothing like a quick quip. The only thing is I can't wash my hair because the dressing isn't water proof. I'm gonna have to find a way. I need one of those head band things they used to have to keep soap out of the kids' eyes. I might devise something with a plastic bag, but I won't put it over my mouth and nose.

Don't worry about washing your hair CG. That can wait till you are better able to. Take it easy. They still have those kids headbands around. Try a cheapy shop.
The ear is healing slowly and it's still tender of course, especially with my glasses on. I'm sure it will be ok when the stitches come out on Friday. Thanks for the thoughts.

The stitches are out. The big "C" has been reduced to "c" as in cured. My ear is still very tender and sore, but it's healing well according to the nurse who took the stitches out. All should be well in the fullness of time.

Update - The dressing is off the ear and it's very hard to see there has been anything done to the ear. Still touchy but nothing much to see now. Thanks everyone for the thoughts and wishes. You do better than my family. I didn't even tell them. Life goes on.

Hooray!! Great to hear it has all mended well. A sigh of relief from us all. Will you start looking for some more piloting work now that is all over with CG ?
