Hi I am  a new member who is thoroughly enjoying the company of the forum.  I finally have to replace the old 12 v analogue TV and doing the rounds I found that a 12 volt digital TV in the likes of Harvey Norman and the Good Guys are about half the price of 12 v. TV that are for sale in caravan accessory shops.  Am I missing something?

Welcome to the forum and what you are missing re the RV/Caravan shops is that the 12 Volt TV's they sell are designed to cope with the rigours of bumping around in a motorhome or Caravan.

It makes them that bit more expensive than the home based variety.

However

I have fitted a "Standard" Teac 32 Cm 240 Volt/ 12 Volt LED TV in my motorhome and have had no problems.

I did buy a regulated 12 volt supply when I run the TV directly from the 12 Volt battery.

The TV draws 5 Amps and I bought a regulated 12 Volt 5 amp regulator from Jaycar.

I was told by a TV tech that using the TV directly from the motorhome 12 Volt supply could overload the TV under certain conditions.

I have had the TV for over a year now with two trips from Brisbane to Melbourne and back with no problems.

 With Kogan you get what you pay for. Hubby thinks they are great because they are cheap - I don't share his opinion. We have bought three TVs from them. With one we had to purchase separate speakers becasue the sound was so awful.  The last one is so slow to start up you would think you are in a time warp back to the days when you had to wait for the valves to warm up.  My Kogan ereader touch screen works OK with every function except the page turning - it wants to turn back a page.  Kogan have not bothered to answer my last email to them - so much for good service.

That seems like a good deal, what size screen is it NeilnRuth? If it has a 12v plug attachment I think it's a safe bet that it'll be ok on 12v

I have only just peeked in the box - and although it doesn't say 12V on the outside, there is a 12v plug attachment included. It is LED LCD HD with inbuilt DVD player and only cost $179.  They may have an LG screen, Korean (used to be Goldstar ie Lucky Goldstar), but they're made by a company called Natcomp Chinese.

Hi All, I recently bought a Kogan TV/DVD combo and whilst it works great when connected to my house aerial, in the motorhome I get almost nothing. Channel 2,1,10 & 11 is about it. I have auto scanned and re-scanned and the only consistent channel seems to be channel 2. I have a Winegard antenna and have just replaced the cable but it's made no difference. Recently I stayed in a caravan park and connected the Kogan directly to their antenna point and got absolutely nothing when they were getting all the regular Adelaide stations. I have had a Sanyo and an AWA both working well on all stations in the motorhome with the same antenna, cables, location etc. If anyone has any ideas or input, I'd greatly appreciate it.
