Our caravan has its gas cylinder storage in the front boot, and theres 2 holes in the floor to vent it. Another caravan owner with gas cylinders on the A-frame said he thought new laws had been brought in which required gas cylinders not to be in the front boot any more. We presume he meant it was for new vans made after a certain date.
Has anybody heard about this? Any opinions as to which type of storage is safer?
The worst place to have gas would have to be the back of the van... big boom if you got rear-ended!

Havnt heard of any laws removing LPG from internal fitting. As long as area has suitable ventilation and notice of LPG storage area in my opinion is safer inside than sitting on an a-frame.
Gerty, IMHO I think problems arise if you have a battery charger and one of more batteries in the boot also, then the gas bottles or charger/batteries need to be in a sealed compartment, but if you have sealed batteries............
Am not an expert, but if you have a charger/batteries along with the gas bottle would definitely follow it up. Would also try caravannersforum if you do not get and answer here.
LPG Cylinder storage is quite OK in the front boor providing the ventilation complies with Gas regulations (AS 5601-2004) and no batteries, chargers, power point, lights etc are in the same compartment (boot). In other words they cannot be stored in any area where a spark may ignite any gas.

22.2 LPG Installation The local state or territory registering authority should be consulted for acceptability of LPG installations requirements. In cases where the local state and territory does not mandate a minimum requirement. Then Manufacturers are required to comply with Australian Standard AS 5601-2004 'Gas installations'.
