We came back to karuah from Mudgee using the Putty Road.No probs at all and I must say that there were numerous caravans going both ways.Just take it easy and respect the Putty.Motorbikes make it interesting if you like bike racing.Lol. Forgot to say that it was today we used the road.

We towed a caravan along that road a few years back. Had no trouble.

Hi. we always prefer to travel the Putty Rd, when travelling north from our place.
Easy as. Bit windy in parts but just take your time and enjoy the scenery. Theres a new 48hr. free camp half way between Windsor and Singleton thats worth stopping at for a stay or a cuppa. Theres some posts in the free/budget section about it.

G'Day Gerry;

I went down th Putty just before Xmas . It is in good condition .

There are next to no trucks on th Putty anymore so you should have a

reasonable run , WATCH out for th Bikes at th w/end though , they go pretty

quick . Only one hill for concern on n/bound . Dropping down to Colo River .

When it says "trucks USE low gear" , take it easy going down there , as there

is a 25k left-hander at th bottom (about 2 to 2.5k) then th "mad ten" , that

is th 10miles of bends after Howes Valley( It is  'signed' 16k winding road)

25 - 35 & 45k bends , slight downhill for most of th way through 'th 10' ,

couple of 35k l/handers toward th end , where you have rock-face on your

left , but I never had any trouble getting a 55' semi around if something

came th other way . If you are going  through th week it should be pretty

quiet . Enjoy your trip .

Richo.

We travelled Putty road about 5 weeks ago with a 22 ft van and had no hassles at all. By the way don't forget to stop at the Grey Gums cafe. It' s about half way along the road. Great place to stay the night if you like. Enjoy the journey Brian
