The best laid plans sometimes go astray, I commented previously about the van boiling in Coral Bay whilst reversing in the back tracks well it was running hot on the way to Exmouth so I took it in to be checked out the radiator and the rest of the cooling system seemed not to have a problem but the radiator cap was not holding the correct pressure and it was replaced. Over the next days we drove the van very little and all seemed to be well but this morning we set off for Yannarie River camp site Camps6 #489 and had the same overheating problem. We have made it here and are camping overnight but the problem is where can I get the van thoroughly checked out and the answer seems to be Karratha so instead of heading to Karigini we will set off slowly towards Karratha and hopefully by watching the temperature carefully and stopping often we will make it there by Sunday night in time to find an RACWA dealer to confront on Monday morning. Oh well I have had a good run so far and cant complain, the cooling system was thoroughly worked over prior to leaving Queensland so I am thinking that the problem may be the fan but I will look at the electrics as I did before leaving when the van was running hot and it helped then. Sunday Made it to Karratha after several hours moving at 60kms and stopping twice to fill up the radiator. Will buy petrol at the Shell Roadhouse and stay there overnight Camps6 #503. Will check the internet tonight to find the RAC service centre and have the van checked out.
Will also check out whether the road from Karratha to Tom Price is suitable for 2 WD, hopefully will be able to resume my intended trip to Karigini

I'm not sure what type of fan you have in your vehicle but if it is an electric type it could be that. Once had an overheating problem in my little Festiva, took it to Ford dealer in Bundabergthinking it may be a sensor or similar. They charged me $70 to tell me I needed a new head gasket and would cost $1600.
Knew it wasn't that so took it to auto electrician who charged me $70 to recondition the fan motor - problem solved.

If it has boiled, i would be suspicious of the head gasket & posible warped head, since you are toping the coolant up. Im about to pull the head of a Ford Laser doing the same thing.
Half a can of Barrs leaks will get you to the next place, but I would have a mechanic look at it when you get there. Start the motor and see if there are bubbles in the radiator . Its a sign that compression is getting into the cooling water.Also if the water or oil is white , you have problems. Bill
