Haha, for the last 4 years I have taken a Vit B1 250 mg everyday. It hasn't stopped the mozzies from biting me.

Just saw the show, he knocks on peoples doors, checks out their cupboards and if he likes what he says he gives them 500 dollars. It doesn't have to be Ozemite, could be any of his brand or even homemade jams as one lady found.

We only buy dick smith peanut paste because it IS the best and is homegrown.

Today I bought sheets - australian grown cotton made in Australia into 100% cotton sheets - the best I believe on the market. Costs more - yes - but will last 2 to 3 times longer and in Qld climate they are cooler than the cheaper sheets that are plyester/cotton from overseas.

Dick Smith is one of my heroes. i do not see a catch as someone mentioned but a man proud to be an Australian and proud to stand up for Australia and Australian workers and farmers. Dick - if you read this - you rock.

Dick Smith peanut butter (super crunchy) is the best on the market, but it can be hard to find sometimes. I haven't seen their jams yet but will keep an eye out for it. Unfortunately I can't cope with Ozemite though.

I prefer to support Australian farmers and business where possible - sometimes the products are a little more expensive (though not always), but at least you know where the ingredients come from (mostly anyway).

Also, I would rather buy fish caught/farmed in Australian waters than some river in Vietnam.

I like Dick Smith and his patriotism, he's doing a great job, but I can't afford to buy Australian only. There are some things I won't buy from OS, like fish, but basically, like many pensioners, I have to go for the most economical products.

I think we can balance it out. I buy a lot of Coles products but I won't buy their jams or tinned fruit.
The tinned apricots come from OS and for some stupid reason they peel the fruit. The jam has large clumps of half apricots. Very hard to spread on my toast. Also from OS.
If we're selective and read those damned labels we can make wise, informed decisions, hopefully in the best interest of us and the country most of the time. It does balance out.
Coles cereal is not nice, so I buy Sanitarium.
Angas Park, situated at Angaston in the Barossa Valley is no long locally owned. Now that's very sad.
When it comes down to it, who does own what company, or shop or business?
The products might come from Australia but packed OS, or a blend of local and OS.
Going shopping is like going to the library. All that label reading to assess fats, carbos, sugars, salts, warnings, production, company, origin etc. Have fun.

Been banned from giving away $'s in ACT. ?? Some technical explanation given. Just thinking though "What a great marketing plan" If everyone buys a jar of some sort for "just in case" I would expect sales to really go through the roof.
