Management and I take a Bowel Cancer test every May, I guess its not the nicest thing but bowel cancer isnt nice either and is a very preventable type of cancer when caught early. I have a friend who has cancer which started out as bowel cancer. Just a heads up for all out there - you can get a kit from the chemist for 8 dollars each, its a fund raiser for Rotary, or have your G.P. send you to the local pathology clinic for one. so check your health and support a great charity .... cheers Pete

And for those out there who have coeliac, be diligent in having checks. My husband's mother was so long undiagnosed as a coeliac, she had bowel cancer. It was removed and she is still alive at 93.
My brother is just about to start 16 weeks of chemo, after an op to remove a tumour in his bowel - they did keyhole surgery due to heart and blockage issues, but 5 days later his bowel was ruptured, luckily he was still in hospital, they rushed him to ICU, then operated again - opened him up this time - and repaired the rupture, and also took a bit more of the bowel. He has been home about a month, and is doing ok - managing colostomy bag etc., not looking forward to the chemo - but what is the alternative!
He had symptoms, but - typical bloke - ignored them, till he virtually had to go to the doctor.
Hoping this chemo will give him the "all clear", and he will be able to continue on with his life with his wife - travelling with their caravan, and lliving the good life.
So, as the others above say - get yourself checked out regularly - don't leave it till it is almost too late, or indeed too late.

Had no symptoms but had a routine colonoscopy at age 52...............2 weeks later 5 hour surgery to remove large benign tumor. I was very lucky. My advice is to have a colonoscopy, its really not that bad in fact the hardest thing is to drink a glass of lemon flavoured drink every 15 mins for 2 hours. If it had been left any longer I'd be having chemo!
