Can someone tell me how far north my kids would have to go from Canberra to find a warm place that is interesting the second week in July? They want to head somewhere for the second week of the holidays with the camper. It need not be tropical just not freezing. The children are 11 and 9 and they like to ride bikes, bushwalk, are interested in cultural displays etc and swim but the latter maybe not so much in July.
oh well maybe the kids could put up their old tents in their lounge room like we used to do when they were little. there is an open fire in there, they could still toast marshmallows.... How are things with you Marj? Sounds like you all had a wonderful time. I was so envious but look forward to catching up again very soon. The cold is starting to roll in here but it is still no where near as cold as Burra for 25 yrs so all good. Cant wait for my trip north in June, ill be in a camper like yours. I'm trying to think of little things I could take to make it a bit more comfortable, (come in handies) but there is not much you can take on the plane. Keep well Tess
Realisically anywhere on the North coast NSW will be a lot warmer than Canberra Tess, but they'll have to rug up at night. Byron Bay perhaps or Lennox head, theres lotsa lovely places along that coastline. They'll be packed out at that time of year.
Canberra's cold has been a bit of a shock to our system, we were away all last winter, and have only just returned to frosty nights and chilly days. The house heater keeps us warm but I keep thinking about the cost of the electricity, and how much cheaper it would be to live on the coast.
Hi Tess, we have been in the Rocky region now for about a month and the days have been magic. 25 is the average temp and the nights in the main great just one or two nights a bit on the cold side but who cares with great days.
Regards
Brian

When we lived in Canberra, every year we would go to Noosa in July and camp in the tent. The kids would jump straight into the Noosa River. My thoughts are anywhere north of Noosa but on the coast, as it will be warmer than inland. Perhaps Inskip Point? One of my favourite places...

If there is such a thing as a tourist season.... why cant we shoot them?
Thanks all for the suggestions I'll pass them on. My memories of Burra (Canberra region) are very fond memories but I don't miss the cold. The house was very well heated( but I wouldn't be up to the wood chopping now days) and when I moved to town I didn't know what people did all weekend if they didn't mow grass. I loved it but It it was another lifetime. I like to visit and come home again. A shame my daughters birthday is early July..... She's in Cooma!!!! Enjoy that sunshine up there in the north. Tess
You could come to NQ, though its a bit far away. Its 25c here at the moment and doesn,t get cold, well, not what you would call cold, anyway.Join the throngs, and come to Queensland. All the Vics, and frozen Canberrans come do at this time of year. Bill
gees some people must not feel the cold we live on the sunshine coast at it is freezing at night already weve had our fire going inside our house to keep us warm,we arent far from noosa so it depends how warm you are talking, days are nice but rug up at night already.
Funny you should say that Glassies. My parents retired up there many years back and I though great ill escape the winter and join them for a while. I was FROZEN at night up there. I must admit it was a bit like Sydney. Everyone believes it doesn't get cold so they wear their cardigan to work with open toed shoes in winter and freeze while waiting on the train station. At least Canberra people know its cold I guess and adjust to it with house heating, car, work etc. they also all wear layers and scarves. It was almost that you were not allowed to turn heaters on or wear warm clothes because you were over the border into Qld. They had a double brick house and a small heater in one room. Brrrrrr I was glad to get home. the blood gets thinner I guess when you move from the cold climate. Tess
