Make sure that you have lots of time to do the walks round The Olgas. I prefered them to the rock. Especially if you wait quietly in a spot for the noise of tourists to fade .. then out come the birds.
But I really enjoyed the climb to the top of the rock.
I agree about King's Canyon.. It's marvelous. Just hope you don't get the kids running towards the edge and frightening the life out of you like the day we did. And.. head the warnings about not standing too close to the edge of the cliffs. When you get to the other side you'll see how undercut they are.
Thanks for the advice, we're heading there on Sunday and our son warned us about the sheer drops so we will be careful. Had a fantastic day walking the Olgas, one more day here at Yulara to rest and enjoy the activities here and looking forward to moving on to Kings Canyon

They're not just sheer, the top edge actually overhangs in quite a few places. The very edge can be just a few hundred millimetres thick in places.

About 5 seconds after I took that pic a kid of about 10yrs old ran past me and stopped within a metre of the edge and threw a big rock over the side. Scared the cr*p out of me not to mention had there been anyone below it would have been very nasty. His parents didn't even seem to see anything wrong.. till I pointed out how irresponsible it was. Had the little "dear" tripped, he would have also been over the edge.
When we were at Kings Canyon we saw several tourists sitting on the edge dangling their legs over the side. Talk about crazy, as you can see from Troopy's fantastic photo the edge is generally an overhang, could crumble at any time.
Water is very important. Heed the signs about it, unlike a group of young males and females who came up to us about a third of the way around and asked where they could get some drinking water. Think they went back the way they came.
There is a walking track that goes from Kathleen Springs through to Kings Canyon. We didn't have anyone travelling with us to do a vehicle shuttle, but did walk each end of it, backtracking to the vehicle. The Kings Canyon end is a really interesting walk, through domes a bit like the Bungles. We went up the "down" section of the Rim walk, for a little way, then the track veered off to the right. Well worth doing for any of you who travel there and like walking. It was not quite as strenuous as the main walk track that climbed up to the Rim - we'd done that a couple of days before.
