we do we dont stay at expensive parks we dont need all those extras like playgrounds and pool and if you stay a week you get a night free, if you dont own a home you can get rental allowence from centerlink. we manage quite well. but were not big on going to clubs and meals out so that saves a lot, we usually hang out in small country towns during school hols there cheaper.

We do as well. We occassionally stay in parks but not very often.We also do a bit of farmsitting and farm help along the way to help cover some costs. (no rent,power,water and food generally supplied.)It all helps balance the budget.And having a great time whilst doing it.

As long as you have money put aside to cover Rego, Insurance & emergencies it can be done.

Doing some volunteer work for free hookup & facilities helps too.

Hi Cowboy, we manage on a pension. Put money side for rego fuel etc. Off you are set up for free parking you will manage quite well.I'm sure you will get plenty of ideas on the forum. Cheers

We do. But of course we mainly free camp. What we save doing that we use to go on a cruise. But you have to stay away from expensive tourist thingos.

both my hubby and myself are on a DSP and we've been on the road for two months now.. I think as long as you free camp as much as you can and take your time meandering around the countryside it can be done... we're having a ball, so far we've been having a great time slowly going thro the back roads looking at the country side :) even get internet!!! so if you have the chance to go GO!!! have a ball!! and enjoy :)

If you stay in a CP you are also entitled to rent assistance if you are on a pension or new start.

Been on the pension for years, lived on the road for just over a year and doing well and eat well, you can do it if you try hard, save money for those bills that keep coming in and a lot of free camping.

You certainly need to save some in the 'slush fund' for emergencies. We've just had over $1000 to spend on our van this trip!

I'm on a disability pension & I originally went down the rent assistance path but the aggravation of keeping receipts, reporting to them every place you stay, finding a C/link office and parking spot nearby then having them query the form you use EVERY TIME you try to hand it in, then being told you have to wait to see someone (sometimes up to 1 1/2 hours) because there isn't a specific form to use for our nomad purpose so they get into an argument over the one you are using saying it's the wrong one until, finally, the superviser comes over and backs you up. I can't count how many times this happened to me.

I came to dread going to Clink and found it wasn't worth my trouble and peace of mind.

Last time I spoke to Centrelink they said just get them signed by the CP and post them to them every couple of weeks. Guess it depends who you talk to.
