Came the other way along there in November last year, towing the van, no worries at all, much quieter than the highway and shorter.

cry   Is there a name to this alternative road?  We have checked the maps and can see a road that appears to travel on the west side of the Bruce Hwy but that looks like going a lot further in distance. (A3 - route 17)?

In July, we will be making our way up the coast and try to avoid the busy roads when possible.

Could someone elaborate on this alternative route, please?   smile

Not sure what the name is, it is east of the highway, and significantly shorter than going all the way out to the highway from Agnes Water. From recollection the turnoff is on the northern outskirts of Bundaberg.

When leaving Bundaberg take the Bundaberg - Gin Gin Road till you come to the turn off on the right to Rosedale which will also display the sign to 1770, it is then well signed to 1770 and Agnes Water . You come to Agnes Water first then 6 KLM further to 1770. I did the trip today and can recommend it .

I travel that road often, and it is far better than the Bruce Highway. Only downside is that if it rains moderately in that area there are a few places where the water is a problem, including the essendean bridge.
