Stayed at Mendoran free camp on monday night which was basic but a good site, then onto Moree where the showgrounds was very muddy after all the rains ,so stayed in the Gwyder c/p at $30 so made good use of the artesian pools and very relaxing
We have met up with friends at Surat free camp and will be here for a number of days. It has very clean toilets, town water and bins are emptied daily,and plenty of firewood from the mill

We are new members and I was just wondering where the Surat camp was situated if you don't mind sharing? I am putting all of these free camps into a little notebook that can go in our glovebox when we start our big trip.
Maybe worth posting these sites on the Free/Budget campsites section of the forum where they won't get buried so quickly and members can come back and refer to them later.

Michelle, Surat is on the Carnarvon Highway between Roma and St George. It is #866 in CAW6 Qld if you have that book.

I used it constantly while I was on the road and added my own and other people's comments. It is worth every cent you pay for it - and you could toss out all the other bits and pieces you usually travel with. Monica
Everybody's view of camps is different and I think this one is good. the parking area has some ordinary parts and depending on the vanners some let it get muddy with there waste water I think a lot of camps wil be ordinary at the moment with the rain,but certainly cheaper than c/p
the area that has been blocked off is grassy and goes down to the river and has concrete table and seats and also a covered area with tables and seats Ken

I just rang my local book shop The Dust Jacket and they had a copy so I told them to put it aside I am heading down in about 10 minutes lol the book cost $59.95, best thing I have bought this week I think. Thanks for your input Monica.

Not only is it well researched and generally up to date, which must be a mammoth task for the publishers, but they have regular updates that can be downloaded from their website. As well one can download POI files for the popular makes of GPSs for a very reasonable price.
They also encourage feedback from users in regard to any errors or amendments.

Thanks Jim I got it last Friday so I am busy putting all the comments etc and the recommendations in there for when we start travelling. It is a fantastic resource and well worth the money.
Ken, pretty sure it was your rig we saw at Teramungamine (behind the million dollar Sewerrat bus) when we dropped in to check it out on our way to Warren a couple of weeks ago. Bit of a surprise to see little brother Ross's rig (Avan with blue BT50 tug) there so dragged him out of bed to get us a cuppa, lol. Look forward to meeting up with you & lots of others once we finally get on the road.
