I found the turbo oven to be too big for me but many have them and swear by them.
Re: the turbo oven, what power source do you use? Inverter? If so how much battery would they use to cook a roast for instance.
I don't have a Turbo Oven Val but as they are 240volt, one would need a gennie if free camping.
The one I had at home drew quite significant current so a pretty big inverter and battery supply would be needed. There are many cheap versions on the market now and I have no idea of the current draw of any of them.
I use a BabyQ for roasts although always used the camp oven in the past and have done many a pot roast in my DP.
I'm hoping to be able to make the sorts of things I cook at home - like curries, slow cooker meals, Spaghetti Bolegnese, Baked Fish, just to name a few. We have a lot of stir frys too and Steak, baked potato and salad. I am not planning on changing anything too much whilst travelling. I love to cook and that will continue in the van. I am looking forward to purchasing fresh produce from farms etc along the way and visiting seafood co-ops for fresh seafood or whatever we catch along the way lol. That was why I had to insist in what we wanted in a van hehehe it had to have a full oven and a large fridge/freezer. I'm not a plain food eater and much prefer, Thai, Italian and Spanish food lol. Michelle
Michelle, when you hit the road, i need to know your full travel intinery ??

ROTFLOL Dazren, okay so if we happen to see a lotus caravan being towed by a silver grey Colarado we will walk up and ask you over for a meal and if perchance it is not you and your wife then we are gonna be in deep . . .very deep dodo!!!! Cause I just asked some geezer to enjoy a meal with us ROTFLMAO and he is going to think we are stalkers hehehe
Michelle
What about little old me? Why should dazren get special treatment?
Okay Doug the same applies to you and everyone that may be there but please let me know what you are driving etc once again do not want to approach some geezer that I don't know ROTFLOL that would be total embarrassment lol.
ROTFLOL - What does this mean? Please explain. I'm really hating this new digital "language".
I precook and freeze all the time because I hate cooking for me on my own. I love to cook, but I'd rather cook for 20 than for me. I cook mostly one-pot meals with lots of veges, precook brown rice and wholemeal pasta. Packed into small zip bags and frozen. This is a nice serve size. I prepack everything into serve sized containers. Sometimes I bake a spud in the micky wave and add something nice on the top. I cook mac cheese and add tuna in springwater, some spinach leaves and/or parsley. I only look like I eat a lot. But the more of me there is, the more of me there is to love.

We have a thermal cooker (anyone want to buy it) it does a good job, however, we both like our tucker but dont spend to much time on the cooking. What we use a lot is a small slow cooker. When we do our caravan stops we cook up a big stew and maybe some spag bol and freeze it. when camping its just a matter of getting the little gas cooker out and heating it up. When we first started we had just about every fad cooking thing going. Now we can make do with the slow cooker, barby and the gas cooker.

Hi CG ROTFLOL means rolling on the floor laughing out loud!!
We only ever do our spuds in the microwave if they are in their jacket that is fastest way to cook them.
I also agree the more of us there is the more of us there is to love hehehe. . . .love it! !

Hi Neil and Raine, I love my slow cooker in the winter time, it gets a real flogging in our house lol. I also have a dehydrator and cooking stews etc at home then dehydrating them is an easy way to store food and carry it in the van. Mind you it would be only emergency food for me because I love fresh food but it is still lovely and tasty when rehydrated.
Ha ha Michelle, it may be easier for all of us to find you.
You should get a sign made up and hang it each time you stop. That way we can find you and take up your invitation to dinner.
Well Boroma, when I finally get my van and 4WD I will put a Grey Nomad sticker on the back and my Bohemian Gypsy sticker and then you all will know who it is lol. I do love to cook for people so I will be in my element for sure hehehe. I have been making up recipes and cooking since I was 12 yrs old. When Dad got out of the regular Army after 20 years service he did a chefs course and became a French chef so it must run in the family hehehehehehehe that's my story and I am sticking to it
I like my thermal cooker as I can prepare my night meal whilst having breakfast and then clean up in one hit. The thermal cooker works whilst I drive and then when I stop for the night I have a hot meal ready to go. Just set up and sit down to a nice stew or Asian dish . For this I add the veg about an hour before I need my meal. It is horses for courses. I love my wood fire when I camp more than one day or if I setup before 2 in the afternoon but if I expect to be late or the weather is crap then the thermal gets a go. Regards Brian

Hi Brian, I was intrigued by the Dream Pot and went to their website and looked at the videos etc and almost convinced myself that we needed one but then for me it would just be another thing in the kitchen as I have a slow cooker as well as a brand new $400 pressure cooker that my dad bought and thought it was too complicated to use so never did lol, his loss my gain! So then I need to ask myself do I need a DP because it is nearly $300. Does it do roasts etc just like the normal oven? Can it cook cakes and biscuits and have them brown like the oven? If it can do all that then I think I might be sold lol.
I bought my thermal pot from Aldi for $79. OK it probably does a $79 job but it has come in handy to make casserole type things so I don't have to cook at the end of the day. I can use other things to cook cakes etc. I don't think it would do a roast like an oven - you'd need a Cobb cooker for that I think.
I pretty much cook what I cook at home. As some have said, I eat too well out there. Also if anyone is interested. My son in law has just released a new range of organic meals. They are in a lot of IGA stores and they are in those pouches. Nice meals, easy to carry, easy to heat up and be good for you and taste good too. Momo's meals. risottos, soups and Home made baked beans, one with chorizo. I told him caravaner's would be a good market because we may wish to be mobile but we don't have to compromise on the quality and the taste of the food we eat. A very convenient way of having something there to heat up and eat or add to a bar b q. All ingredients sourced by him, cooked by him and packaged by him. Worth a try anyway.
