Does this mean it's a 4x4 dazren? and I will take no notice of your fibs. Wombat is a wakeup to you.

I hope you can sell the scooter soon mate. I had to do all that for my dad as well about 8 years ago. I also had to sell his house for him when he was in a nursing home, boy, was that hard.

Thanks Dougwe, Yeah it's not easy, Dad was 89 when he passed away, and for 88 + half of those years was very independent  and healthy, only stopped [local ] driving last november, so i got him the scooter, 3 days later he went into hospital for 2 weeks, then into a very nice nursing home  but could'nt [ or would'nt adjust ] and passed away 8 weeks later

Sad But he did have a good life, and went peacefully, what more can one ask for ??

You have a good safe trip to Mildura, when you go, you lucky bugger, I have just put the Van Cover on mine as it will probaly be Melb Cup week before i can get away again,  See ya  Dazren

Good point Michelle, when your looking at the vans, pay PARTICULAR ATTENTION, to the dining table and seating arrangement. I found it very dificult to find ANY comfortable seating?? bleh they all look good but are not comfortable or practicle, especially if you have trouble with your knees, just a point of interest for you, dazren

I am real sorry to hear about your Dad Dazren, it happens that way doesn't when they don't want to go into a nursing home they just will themselves to go.

I am afraid that if we have to put my Mum into a nursing home she will do the same thing but she has blackmailed us so far to keep her out.  It is my turn to have her for two months coming up in mid July, so if I sound a little more crazier than normal wink it's because of Mum.

Thanks Dazren we have been so far because I have lived in a van when I was in my 20's (so long ago now) I know to look out in particular for the dining table.  This is one of the reasons I have been looking at vans with an extra couch not attached to the table because I need to bend and stretch my knees constantly so try and alleviate some of the pain. But thankyou anyway for bringing it to my attention Dazren.

It is also recommended by what I have read to make sure you have a circuit breaker for the hot wire so when you turn the ignition off it cuts the power from your car battery to your van fridge, otherwise if you stop too long you could get a flat vehicle battery......

Cropper, A circuit breaker does not do what you are suggesting. A curcuit breaker is another type of fuse system, but instead of just blowing like a normal fuse they reset when they have cooled down, if the short curcuit still exists then the curcuit breaker will open again & stop the power supply untill the problem is resolved.

To do what you are suggesting requires a H/D relay switch or a solinoid switch, & this is a must if you dont want a flat starter battery. This is not an expensive item to have fitted.

If you are looking at steel bull bar and brush bars.....probably somewhere in the 2 to 3 grand mark fitted.  Less if it is brush bars only.  All have to be air bag compatible.

Might also want to check the existing tow bar on the vehicle and make sure it is up to the job of towing the van of your choice......not all tow bars are equal.

It looks like a great vehicle, and I hope it's up to the job you're expecting of it. Congratulations!

Thanks CG and I'm sure it will be up to the job and it won't be towing a 27 footer that is for sure lol.

Point taken JC, I couldn't think of the correct term I had read about but like you said a solenoid or relay swith (or isolater as Smokey said), thanks for clarifying that.....

Hi Michelle,

Firstly I'm a little late coming to this thread so I may not have absorbed all that has gone before but a couple of comments,

I think whoever gazumped you on the 27 footer did you a favour. A smaller rig should give you all the niceties without the hassles of a van that size.

Regarding powering the fridge: Assuming you go for a rig with a 3way fridge, as discussed on another thread of yours, I would point out that attempting to run a 3way from a house battery (solar or no solar) is a lost cause as it would soon flatten the house battery. As alluded to above the only 12v supply to the 3way should be from the vehicle's main battery/alternator circuit, not its auxiliary battery (if one is fitted) or the van's house battery. This is simply achieved by connecting this circuit to the main battery. (the alternator is hard wired to the battery so its one and the same thing). When camping you can use gas if not on a powered site.

Also as pointed out steps should be taken to ensure this supply is disconnected when the engine is not running. The solenoid described in previous posts will do this.

An alternative is to fit a Fridge Switch (click on the underlined link for more details) Many caravanners don't have this isolation fitted and rely on their memory to switch off the fridge or remove the plug when pulled up for lunch etc, a sure recipe for a flat battery one day!

Jim
