Now you have to pay for the water

Thats what a friend has told me he spent the night at Banka Banka we gave it a miss this time but our friends who just arrived here in Darwin said you have to pay to wash the car or van and the price has gone up, it was a place we all stopped at to fill out tanks, wash the car and the van because the water was good. But since the new owners are out to cash in.. So we will give it a miss on the way home

That's a good advertisement. Some places where water is a bit scarce charge for showers, but where water is plentiful, that's just profiteering on a utility.
Typical!!! It's happening everywhere since privatisation.

There is a cost associated with most things so what could be fairer than the person who uses the water pays for the water?

I don't know the full story, but if I was in the RV business and people just stopped at my premises to fill tanks and wash car and van without adding to my business income, then I would be inclined to make a charge as well.

If the water is good in an area where its usually gross bore water, we'd pay for a tankful. And we have always had to pay to wash the car, thats life these days.

I reckon if you use it you should pay for it.

IF you have to buy it you can't afford to give it away , A caravan owner told me their fee and charges from council and Government have gone up sky high recently

Not Yet it hasnt

It has been purchased by "the corporation" and will be gradually handed over for them to run in accordance with an approved business plan.

the conditions are that it MUST be run as a financially successful operation, the employees have to complete their jobs and there is no "sit down money"

They have 5 years to make it a success or it will be sold on the open market.

That is the word from current management on site.

G'day everyone,

We have just left Banka Banka for the second time in a month and I will go back next time.

The only charge for water is $2 if you want to wash your car and the same if you want to wash your van. Pretty cheap for a car wash if you ask me.

No charge for hooking water up to your van.

This info is correct as of this morning.

I really was surprised to find internet access(wireless/telstra) at Barkly station where we are now.

stay safe

frank

To the best of my knowledge Banka has been given back to the aboriginals.

Hence the price rise.

5 years..........seems a fairly generous amount of time, could be a total failure long before that and who picks up that tab or loss for that ?

Interesting conditions of management.
It seems fair to have to pay for extra water used.
I used internet at Barkly Homestead in 2010. It's quite surprising where I get internet access these days. Bigpond of course.
It won't work with any other provider.
