Vic suggested that I make a list of some of the highlights of the trip but at the time had just completed the circumnavigation and didnt feel like preparing any posts for a few days. Now after settling down I can see the merit in the suggestion and have given thought to it.
First I have prepared a list chronologically of the top 10 free camps that I have enjoyed.
Coopernook Forest Park NSW Camps6 #84 Saw Pit Campground Mt Clay State Forest Vic Camps6 #589 Normans Beach WA Camps6 #89 Cosy Corner East WA Camps6 #102 Cliff Head North WA Camps6 #431 Longreach Waterhole NT Camps6 #94 Normanton River Qld See Visitors Centre for permit Toomulla Beach Qld Camps6 #38 Boulder Creek Qld Camps6 #60 Calliope River Rest Area Qld Camps6 #105
Secondly I have prepared a list of the locations where I have enjoyed spending time in and that appealed to me visually, again in chronological order. There are no doubt many more but these stand out in reflection.
The Clarence River around MacLean & Lawrence The Great Ocean Road The Great Australian Bight Esperance Cape Le Grand Albany Margaret River Kalbarri Denham and Monkey Mia Exmouth and the National Parks nearby Karijini National Park Broome Geikie Gorge Katherine Gorge National Park Litchfield National Park Darwin Kakadu National Park Normanton Cooktown The Daintree Mission Beach
Thanks John, Very interesting, I've been past Coopernook many times and too scared to venture into the State Forest there. I will certainly make the effort next time.
What a great trip John, I have been enjoying your post's.
Are you planning another trip?
Yes Doug, the timing is not set yet but the plan is to travel back north and return south as the weather hots up. Want to go inland this time to sample the local hospitality of the country towns who appreciate our custom as opposed to the commercialism of the coast which seems to pander to the caravan park owners.
Intend to camp in one place for longer to fully explore the local areas and will post as before from each camping site.
