I have a Toshiba too. I have occasionally got a message saying there is something wrong. Not knowing what they are talking about, I shut down and restart. The laptop gives me no problems so I just carry on.

Hi Happywanderer,

I have a Toshiba too.

Every now and again it comes up with a "serious hard drive problem"

I got my son to check it out and it appears all it is is a failure on my part to back up to hard drive or CD.

I ignore it and it takes a couple of months to come back.

Hope that's all it is with yours too and I'm not giving you the wrong info.

Thanks for that Yuglamron. The only stuff on my laptop are photos which I save on to memory sticks periodically. Other than that theres only the internet.. So not too much of a problem.

I have had my present Toshiba for about 4 years and it is the most reliable comp I have ever owned. The soft ware that runs in it is not so great.Having problems with win7 and 8 at the moment. If its going good, don,t change anything. There are some great bargains about in laptops at the moment. Bill

Snap, you say it is running a bit slow. Have you done a clean disc and defrag lately. Sometimes that is all that is needed.

I have a Toshiba that was showing the same. is only a little over a year old. It got slower and slower and then the wireless card died.

Took it to a shop a few weeks back. $160 to fix, and was told the  configuration had gone haywire. It is worse than ever!!!!    am going to take it back in the next couple of days.

Meanwhile I bought a new Toshiba, but got the 3 year Toshiba warranty this time. wink

most error message's come with a number, to correctly diagnose the problem the WHOLE message AND number should be written down and quoted when taken for repair or posted on any forum that will give tech people some info to solve your problem.

I would not trust ANY shop to touch my pooters.

Computers should be banned. Mobile phones should be banned. DVD and CD players should be banned. GPS should be banned. Play Station should be banned. XBox should be banned. Ipod and Ipad should be banned. Microwave Ovens should be banned. Everything else that I can't work properly should be banned.

I have the same Toshiba Snap.

It was only about 6 months old when it died. I took it back to Officeworks where I'd bought it, and they installed a new hard drive. I don't know exactly what caused it but I had it backed up on CD.

It's been fine since getting the new hard drive.

I have a Kevin o7 toshiba laptop and still running great!
But some times they could do with a reinstall of windows and more often a new hard drive .
Both my new hp laptop and acre pc.. Are away at the moment . Tech is great when it works..
I even did my radio show last week using my iPad!

Always get the longest warranty you can too!

 I agree with you Wombat.

Taking it to ANY shop is not a good idea.

I prefer to take it to a computer shop, rather than say, a coffee shop if repairs are needed.
