Mystery members

I find it interesting... this afternoon I checked to see who was online. There were 7 'members' on line (most of whom I had never heard of)  - and tonight as I look, none of them contributed. So I was pleased to see who was online tonight...the ones who 'talk'. It's made my day.smilesmilesmilesmilesmile

The people you refer to are member of this forum and should be able to do what suits them , Most are doing lots of reading and learning I hope if they want to ask a Question I am sure they will , If they just want to have a chat hopefully they will do so on I Digress

I have been a member for a couple of years but dont do alot of contributing. You're right Brickies I do alot of reading and going back & forth from the various sites. As I havent done any of my travelling to this point I find others stories and suggestions very interesting. Once I start to travel lots then you may wish I would "get back in my box". Its hard and not very exciting to say "today, like yesterday, I'm in Perth", but that doesnt mean we shouldnt be here. Maybe you could say Hello instead of waiting for people you know.

With over 3700 members It would be hard to follow the forum if everybody wanted to contribute all the time Colls it is great that you and others some info that may help in your planing and you know if you need help it is available on this forum

I only post when I think I have somthing of value to contribute.

But then ... Psychology Today suggests it can sometimes be better to say something stupid than nothing at al! Each to their own I suppose.

Thank you Landy , my sentiments exactly.

If one does not need to ask a question or one does not have some information to tell that is of interest to most of the members than one should say nothing.

Why do some members  believe that they have the right to reply and comment on almost every post? How arrogant to think that 3000 ( or however members there are ) people are interested in reading their posts sometimes 5 to 10 a day.( usually off topic and not in the I digress section) All they are doing is making it a long and boring effort for others to weed  through the days posts.

I will not be offended if there are no replies to my message and I will be very happy to sort my way through the posts and  to confine my viewing to things that interest me.

One thing that would make this forum a much better one would be if posters sent their posts to the appropriate sections, eg I digress and left the main forum for what I consider posts that contribute, not answers like me too, wheeee    Onya so n so etc

I have not found the perfect forum yet and I get a lot of information from this one so I am grateful for the good posts and thank you to those folk.

Some forums have the luxury of being able to block messages from  those you have no further interest in hearing from but unfortunately this forum is not made like that so one just has to plough  through it all to get the good bits.

We are all different. As the saying goes

If there were not different coloured crayons in the pack we would have no coloured pictures

Or

If we all sang or played the same note there would be no music

Regards and good travelling

This topic came up about two years ago and if I remember correctly resulted in several members leaving the site as it got quite nasty. I read the forum most days but only write if I feel that I ,have something useful to say, and will continue on this way Keith

Gosh Neil and Ruth this has bought out some nastiness here on the general forum and that makes me a little sad and angry.  Correct me if I am wrong as you are a guru on here but the general forum is for just that general stuff and that means what it means generally speaking but if one goes outside of that topic discussed then it goes to I digress is this so?  Also correct me if I am mistaken anyone has a "right" to read and comment on any post within this forum?  I just needed to clear that up because I didn't like the content of a recent poster. I for one love the forum and that is exactly what I think it is for to chat and get to know each other for when anyone meets up and also to share relevant information, well that is the case on all forums I have been on.

Regards, Michelle

Cindy set up I Digress so member can chit chat some times the the member post a Question which would be high jacked by chit chat and the request for help left un answered , so I think if one want get to know people I digress is the place to do so , If we use the general forum for chit chat if will stop people posting for real grey nomad info

Hi ya Chrisnchris, and welcome.

Good morning everyone else.

There are 2 ways to look at this forum.
1. Its a forum in which to ask questions and anyone with knowledge /experience can respond. A place to read and learn.
2. A community, where folk say hello, exchange chat or banter, travel tales, tall stories, etc.

Personally, I don't understand why people get so touchy about someone seeing it one way or the other.

In my view, its a mixture of both, and that's okay.

Rosie

All forums have members who post and those who don't. Enjoy the forum your own way. Post if and when you want.

If someone doesn't want to read your post then that is their problem and they can work around that.

Welcome to another two Chris's.  They are a friendly and helpful lot on this Forum.  If you have a question some one is bound to have the answer for you.  Enjoy your time here and your travels.

Cheers!

I too try and respond to questions I may have ananswer too, or sometimes I might find a productor service passing on.  That is what the "General Forum" is about.

To discuss all other matters, large or small, the "I Digress" site is very good.

But, sometimes it is a natural progression for the "General Knowledge" to get postive or negative comments.  The tendency to get off subject can be frustrating, but that's life.

THis trip, before we left Hobart, we where contacted by a couple of members and invited to call in and say hello to them.

We have managed to do that and I hope, made friends for life.

That is what "Grey Nomadding" is about for us and once again confirms our belief in our fellow man and the freedom we experience here in Australia.

When being contacted by other members and invited into their lives, we do not know, or ask, are they grey-black-white-Aussie-Asian,etc. We except the invitation as it is given, in friendship.

To us, this forum is given in the same manner.

Dusty

Hi NeilnRuth, noted your post and thought we had better let you know we are. Arrived at Innisfail for a coffee stop. We will be in Cairns on Monday. It's been a slow journey but a great one since we left Melb early March with so many people to see and places to go. Will be in this area of Qld for about 2 to 3 months before heading back late Sept. In regards the Forum, I log on every day but don't always comment unless I feel I have something to contribute to someone's post or I have a question for the Forum. I would suggest that would be the case of most members that I have come across. I have grey nomad stickers on my tow vehicle and caravan and have seen a few in our travels. Trust you are both well Brian And Cheryl.

I apologise if some folk took my post the wrong way. I just would like to get to know the members that I see are 'online' - I don't think it matters if you are travelling or not. We all share a common interest - travelling as a grey nomad whether we can get out on the road or not. Some days I don't comment either - but those days I don't go 'online' - I just read. That was really my query - why go 'online' if you only want to read? But as others have said, each to their own way. smilesmile

I try to welcome all new members I see when I come on so I say 'welcome' to chrisnchris smileand I don't think I've said Hi to Plodnalong - welcome from us.smile

Hi to Brian and Cherylflowerpot.gif - I've been following your progress and glad you are enjoying your trip this far. You are the only 'grey nomads' sticker we have met in our travels.

I truly enjoy this forum and love it just the way it issmile with all the banter and 'offtrack' chat - so much so that I rarely bother to look at any other forums.

Michelle, I don't know why I get tagged a 'guru' as I haven't been here very long compared to so many others so maybe someone else can answer your query.

May every one have a good day.biggrin

This is a great forum but I don't understand why someone should knock the posters who do contribute.

I never log off either but with most forums it times out and your username does not show after a time of inactivity.

Hi all
I am not travelling yet, but check the topics daily as I am interested in where people go and the questions that are asked. I have learnt a lot and all of you are helping to prepare me for my journey in a couple of years. So, I don't comment often, I ask questions, when I need to and I thank everyone who responds......

Most of the time I'm just a lurker but once in a while I'll start a post or come in on another one if it interests me and I feel I have something to say. But if I haven't something to say then I just watch. Each to his/her own eh?
By the way 1: if anyone sees my Nissan around Bowen in Qld do please beep at me. I'll look bewildered for a while but will probably wave and work it out later on.
By the way 2: thanks Cindy for changing my name on here to match my lifestyle - I used to be downunderdyson.

Cheers all,
Andy

I'm not going into why I love this forum again as I have done so in detail a few months back but I do love it as it is, the forum is great, the subjects are great and the people here a extra great.

I enjoy the information, meeting people from here, other people as I move around and the fun had here as well. If I don't like a topic or comment I just move along to the next one. I don't really care if a topic goes off topic as it always seems to get back on topic at the end of the day so keep up the good work people.

There are a few people here that I really hope to meet one day and I'm sure they will know who they are.

Have fun, life's too short to get upset over a forum.

I have to admit that I'm a shocking offender.   I often forget to log out and merely shut down with the X button.   This probably makes it look like I'm still on line when in fact I'm not.   I apologise profusely, throw myself on the mercy of the Court and offer mitigating circumstasnces of being a 'mere male'.
