Mate I don't think there was anything wrong with your post , It has allowed other to point out we all do thing differently and member should be free to to use the forum which ever they chose
I find it interesting... this afternoon I checked to see who was online. There were 7 'members' on line (most of whom I had never heard of) - and tonight as I look, none of them contributed. So I was pleased to see who was online tonight...the ones who 'talk'. It's made my day.
I have to admit that I'm a shocking offender. I often forget to log out and merely shut down with the X button. This probably makes it look like I'm still on line when in fact I'm not. I apologise profusely, throw myself on the mercy of the Court and offer mitigating circumstasnces of being a 'mere male'.
Keith, don't let wombat see that you forgot to log off, he might send you to the naughty room. Dazren's nearly finished.

I never log off. I am permanently logged in but if I turn the computer off or go to another page eg somewhere else on my computer, my activity will show that I am now offline. You can scroll slowly over members name down the bottom of the forum and it will show which topic they are in and how long ago they were active.
Some times people only join to ask a question & then they are gone. Not that it realy wories me as i like helping people if i can. Point in question is Waeco fridge powersuplies & other Waeco problems. I suspect people Google Waeco for a problem & one of the options that comes up is the Grey Nomads Technical. These subjects are burried along way in to the forum. But if some one has posted a question it usualy comes up in my Emails. I also never log off but may not be here.
I'm not going into why I love this forum again as I have done so in detail a few months back but I do love it as it is, the forum is great, the subjects are great and the people here a extra great.
I enjoy the information, meeting people from here, other people as I move around and the fun had here as well. If I don't like a topic or comment I just move along to the next one. I don't really care if a topic goes off topic as it always seems to get back on topic at the end of the day so keep up the good work people.
There are a few people here that I really hope to meet one day and I'm sure they will know who they are.
Have fun, life's too short to get upset over a forum.
I absolutely, 100% agree with you Doug. I love the forum how it is and it does run very very well in spite of the odd occasion where posts go off topic they do return to it and it is all in good fun.
Michelle, I don't know why I get tagged a 'guru' as I haven't been here very long compared to so many others so maybe someone else can answer your query.
May every one have a good day.

Hello again NeilnRuth,
It goes on the amount of posts you do as to what you are tagged apparently. So since you have posted a lot you are considered a guru hehe.
I am more a viewer than a poster, that's my choice.
I do believe however, to enter a comp one should have to have made some input into a forum.
I run a couple of unrelated forums and that is a rule that is in place when any comp is introduced. For instance in a 'tipping comp', to participate a member must have made at least 2 posts prior to commencement and two more every week that the comp runs, otherwise they are ineligble for the comp. Perhaps some may view that as discriminatory, but for mine, "you have to put in to take out".

I too love this forum and there are many ways to use it. NeilnRuth, love the way it has started another conversation. I usually have a poke around each day to see what everybody is up too. I sit here and dream of the day when I am about on the road and hope to meet some of these folk in person. Still waiting for that final contract on the house to be done, the people buying it still have to sell theirs, so I sit and continue to learn about a new life. Sometimes I post and when I do I always get encouraging and useful replies, other times I read and have a good laugh at somebodies antics or drool over photos and like I said dream of being there one day also. Until the time comes for me to hit the road I continue to stalk grey nomads that I see around the place and stalk around this forum. I have looked at others on the web, however not joined any as the topics and conversations did not interest me. NO, hang on that is not true, I have joined the Winnebago one and received useful information there about something I wanted to know, still come back to this one though.
Happy travels everyone.

There are 2 ways to look at this forum. 1. Its a forum in which to ask questions and anyone with knowledge /experience can respond. A place to read and learn. 2. A community, where folk say hello, exchange chat or banter, travel tales, tall stories, etc.
Personally, I don't understand why people get so touchy about someone seeing it one way or the other.
In my view, its a mixture of both, and that's okay.
Rosie
My view as well - personally I didn't see a need for the "I digress" section, but use it - I comment when and where I feel I want to, either to answer a question or comment on someone else's post - so much to learn from some wonderful people on here - and some great ones to meet up with as well.
Lets just enjoy - and leave the criticism for the small minded people.

And isn't that a pity wombat? We'd love to get to know them. Michelle, I still not sure I feel like a guru. There are so many who join this site that know so much more than me. I'm a bit like jules47 - I comment when I feel I want to and enjoy the good banter of others. I checked another forum out last night and it had so few recent posts - at least this one stays alive and there ar lots of posts even if others think they are pointless.
Three cheers for 'greeynomads' I say.
Have a good day everyone. (I 'digressed' from doing the washing....I'd better get back to it!)
some people join just to take part in the photo comp, win a prize and you never hear from them again
I see you noticed that about our last photo comp. 1st & 3rd spot joined just in time to enter the comp and I doubt they will be heard from again till the next comp. The second place getter is at least a regular contributer to 'Pick This Place'.

Three cheers for greynomads (and the crowd went wild) hehehe

I did post a topic about this sometime ago saying that there should be a member time limit before one can enter but that option was not introduced, I don't mean a member time limit on the forum, just a requirment to enter the comp.
One prize winner from last comp has never evan returned to say thanks to Cindy & Steve, well not online anyway, they may have sent Cindy a PM, that's only a guess from me.

Just to set the record straight, the 1st and 2nd prize winners did post a 'thank you" in the photo comp forum, but I dont remember hearing from them since then.
Glad to see Fried Rice got a prize with those gossiping frogs

Hi GD, I need to clarify, I think to be eligeble for the photo comp one should be a member for 12 months, not a forum posting member just a member, no requirement to having post so many topics
Although I dont post often, I know that my enthusiasm for solo travelling would cease if it wasnt for this forum. I hope it can stay as easy going as it is.
Glad you are posting Colls even if you haven't got out on the road yet. I joined before we went away this year - and it was the enthusiasm of this forum that got me keen to travel again - and now I'm home again and just did 7 loads of washing - and wishing I was on the road again - where I didn't get sick (came home and got sick the very next day!)
I agree with wonbat too about being a member for 12 months if you want to submit a photo in the competition. I must admit I thought there were some 'professional' looking photos in the comp this time.

with todays cameras it is very easy to take professional looking pictures, I've had the photography bug since I was 14 years old.
