Gas Bottle Refill Prices

Living in a small town in the Hunter Valley, can be frustrating at times, especially when getting gas bottles refilled.

Up until last week we always got ours filled at the local Hardware Store,as the closer larger towns like Maitland,Cessnock, and Singleton, are about 25 Minutes drive away, not really worth the petrol cost, unless we had to go there.

the 4KG has been $13.40,which was ok as far as I was concerned.

however, last week I was informed the next refill would be $17.50,when I asked why,the reply was we have been charging the wrong price, and also the new carbon Tax has kicked in.

I dont mind paying a little higher price for anything, but I cant stand being ripped off either,so made a few phone calls to various places, and found Barbeques Galore Maitland,do a refill on a 4KG Bottle for $12.00,and a 9KG for $16.95.

Kathy, and I went in and bought a new 9KG Bottle filled for $57.00

With the extra bottle,we now have a 9,4,and a 3,so it makes sense to drive to Maitland to get 2 filled at a time.

Regards

John

I think we are all being overcharged on LPG(automotive and cooking)

I found my local CRT bloke to be cheapest in my town. In larger places BCF is often cheaper than others but then the rural supply places may also supply at a good price.

shop around like you have done johnno02

 Gday...

This sounds like the "Bakers Delight" nonsense. ACCC has been authorised to investigate frivolous/fraudulent claims for price increases attribufed to "the carbon tax"

Go to this website and lodge a complaint -

http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/tag/carbon/

Cheers - John

Hey all, don't know how true it is, but I heard that they're paying $95 for a 9kg refill in Canada. That sends a shiver down your spine doesn't it?

There are some some enormous price differences in Gas bottle refills, depending where you go,and I understand different Places have different Overheads, etc, and reasonable Price variation's are fine with me.

I only get bent out of shape, when the price being asked,(for whatever the product,or service),is waay over fair, and reasonable, and "Blatant Ripoff" springs to mind.

What Totally amazes me, is the Ripoff Merchants, have no concept of the negative repercussions this practice can do to themselves.

Don't they realize, not all people, are totally Stupid, and will accept this treatment quietly, especially people like us,who have been around a while, and willing to pass on the good,or bad word,on forums like this,as well as word of mouth at gatherings etc.

This has to have some negative impact on their sales,or one would think so,especially Camping Stores, and other shops catering to the Traveller.

I have found over the years, people will Bag,a product or Company, pretty quickly,if they are not happy

On the other hand, people don't always give the thumb's up when it is due either.

I try to be fair, and do both

Regards.

John

We have paid up to $35.00 in the Flinders, SA for a 9kg bottle refill, and when in Griffith, NSW, paid similar, then drove 5 minutes out of town, and saw same for around $18.00
