When I first found this site, I joined as a person who liked to travel and read all the interesting and informative posts. The fact that I'm a solo had nothing to do with it. But in saying that, I did get a lot of great advise and support from the other solos.
I've met some great people along the way, solos and couples. And like Marj, I've found a lot are a little protective of me as a single woman. And that's fine by me. I had some great help from a few of the blokes at Cobb & Co..my shakedown trip. The plan was that if I had problems b-i-l wasn't too far away to come and help me. But these blokes just jumped right in! I didn't need to call on b-i-l at all!
I'm a little shy at just walking up and chatting to people, but as Marj says, that's just my personality. But if I 'click' with someone, I can 'havachat' with anyone.
I do agree that anyone who only reads the solo section is missing out on a lot of great stuff!
Hi HW I haven't been around for a while, very busy showing the dogs and travelling. Just wondered how you are getting on with your campervan? Have you been travelling much and having fun? I am at Adelaide River heading to Darwin. Cheers Allara

Sorry, did you mean me or Happywanderer Allara?
I did notice you hadn't been here for awhile. My caravan is currently undergoing some repairs ready to set off in October for Victoria.
I think the logic behind bypassing solos is the concept they may be loners and prefer it that way. You know, like hermits. I know free camping is about budgets and personal choice, but there is a perception that lone travellers prefer to avoid others, which is not always the case. So I'd suggest you be the one to make the first move to start the chat. You can still choose when you've had enough and return to your rig, or you can stay have share a bbq, drinkies etc. The choice is still yours.

I would have thought that "solo nomads" sub forum would be for topics distinctive to travelling on your own. And anything else would be placed in the appropriate sub forum irrespective of whether you travelled alone or accompanied.

You have "thought" very well. That's the ideal, so we can all find or contribute to topics and threads relative to us. I do find the "search" feature very helpful when gathing info on a topic.

Of course you can post on the solos when ever you like Duh, its about travelling solo. Not about only solos allowed. Anybody can post in any section they like. My original point was a lot of solos only ever post in the Solos section and important imformation gets missed either by them or by others not coming into the solos and not reading their helpful hints and interesting stories. To me Solos section is for info about points to do with solo travelling.
Thanks Marg, I understood your original post and it was a good one, but just thought I would query non solo's posting here as well as I was wondering if I may have been breaching protocol not being a solo. Sorry for the slight hijack !
Thanks to Jules.......glad you found a soul mate along the way via GN !

Just a comment from a non solo, but occasional solo traveller, I have solo GN friends who I like to keep up with on the forum to see what they have been up to, and sometimes they only post here, so have to go here to keep in touch with their travels etc (eg: Yeoeleven, Jonathon etc among others).
So my question is it ok for non solo's to post on solo's as well, providing they don't make a habit of it or try to dominate this section?
What are your thoughts on that?
My personal thoughts are we are all GN's and as far as friendship there is no difference what status a GN is IMHO, although I do understand the need for solo's to have their own section.

Yep - I post in whichever topic interests me, solo, general or I digress - have friends who are not solos, as well as some solos - and like to keep up with all the news - never know who you might find is in the same area, and organise a meet up.

Marg, Marg, Marg, what are you saying? We have to be careful who we encourage here.
Of course anyone can contribute anywhere, EXCEPT our long-term, prodigal son Duh.
Well, since he returned with hat in hand, I suppose we can allow him into the solos. His experience alone gives him credible entry I suppose. Maybe he can post his favourite recipe or favourite camping spot, will keep the gate open.
Yeah, you can stay. I don't think the concept of "Solo" has anything to do with dating or mating. It's more about meeting, and sharing, and I've met lots of really great nomads. I've also learned from them, and shared with them. It really is fun.

Yep, he can stay CG. Duh gave me one of the most useful hints for Myrtle when he was Vic. A shelf up the back on the ledge where the pop top goes up. The most useful shelf I have. It stays there when top is down too, don't have to remove it. When top up and parked I store everything I need there in full view and easy to get to.
It's all about making the most of space and using a space to be useful. Life in a confined space is minimalist so that's life. So I guess on that useful information from Vic, he can stay. Yeah, he can stay. And he can post on the solos bit too. In fact I hope he posts often. So there!

Well thank you Marg and CG, we will meet up one day somewhere along the track!
We (Mrs and I) are doing a trip down to Pemberton and surrounds in August, she in her campervan and me in mine, we have a couple of free days (gift from daughter) in the Pemberton Lodge or something, so a couple of days of luxury with a spa bath to ease those sore driving muscles and then one or both of us could end up anywhere, her with her wheels me with mine!
Troopy, your supposed to drink Solo, not clean your teeth with it
That would be nice Jules, there are a few of us live in proximity to Perth, Wombat (bring your shotgun), JRH, Jean, Blaze, Delta18, and the Colsa's were, not sure if they are still here. Apologies if I've missed a few.
I was in the proximity of Perth a couple of weeks ago but I had a lot to do in a couple of days. I may try to fit in a bit more time if I get over there again in the not too distant future. My heart is still in WA, even I'm an Sth Aussie by heritage.

They're over there now, scattered across the state. I'm off the road for maintenance at the moment. I had the car serviced, and my back needed some serious attention. I have a crook back most of the time, but when my left arm and hands started going numb I was a bit concerned. It's ok after some physio, but it will never be really good anymore.

I know how you feel CG, I'm off to massage again on Tuesday. Its a bit of a worry when the arm starts to ache and go numb. I never know if its because the back is out again or because of my arm being broken in two place back in 2009. Whichever, a good massage workout seems to help.
