Hi brickies. I know the ave the teatowel trick but it wasn't working this time. I do not leave the battery out. I put the alarm back immediately. Yes, if I could get husband not to burn the toast that would be good. The other thing I do is open a poptop vent above the stove as well as have the exhaust fan on. It usually prevents the alarm from going off. Just this one occasion it didn't. But as I said- at least I know it works!!
Oh yes your questions was read correctly, well by me anyway. As gillyb says thats the beauty of this forum. You put up a question and it helps hundreds by the answers being so diverse. Someone who might not know something reads your question and thinks, I wonder (suchand such) and the answer comes up without that person having to start a new thread on the same topic.
Happywanderer, you're a diamond.
And Lyn, please accept my sincere apologies. It was not my intention to cause any offence.

Get a smoke alarm with a "hush button", they're readily available. You press the "hush button" before making the toast and it de-activates the alarm for 10 minutes. The alarm automatically resets after this time so there is no need to remember to reset it.
I've come across cases of caravan owners not being aware that their alarm already had a hush button so this may worth checking by those who already have an alarm.
thank you everyone for all the difference sorts of advise.
but once again i will state that the question was that was a house hold detector was the same as a caravan detector......
and i got that answer from a few of you and i thank you very much for that. and some good hints.
AND YES WE HAVE ALL THE FIRE BLANKETS AND EXTINGISHER THAT WE SHOULD HAVE AND ALWAYS HAVE HAD THEM.
some of you did not read the question properly and i do not appreciate being treated like someone who does not take safety seriously. we are fanatical about it. that is why i asked the question.
Lyn I'm glad that your question was answered but I think by the conversation carrying on passed your original question it has also helped others by discussing the subject of fire in depth and I personaly think thats a good thing so sorry you were a bit offended. I'm also sure that everyone did read your question correctly.
