The good news is that there is nothing wrong with your Air Con.
The Wren you have fitted is a Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner and it's heat pump won't produce heat below around 4c.
You'll need purchase a small portable fan heater to heat the van on the cold mornings. Preferably one with an adjustable thermostat.
The bonus is that fan heaters are also a lot quieter than the Air Con.
For bush camping without mains power consider a LPG or Diesel central heater.
Cheers, ozjohn.

thanks for the info ozjohn, we have been thinking aboutgetting  the diesel heater as it sounds pretty economical

We fully agree with ozjohn, musketeer. We started off with an RC air conditioner - still use it occasioinally for coolong if on 240 v - but had a similar problem to yours, only ours wouldn't even turn on if the outside temp was below about 5 degrees. We now enjoy plenty of warmth anywhere with our diesel heater, and it's very economical!
