A mate of mine is currently doing the lap & I extracted this from his latest Email ...
'On to Lienster a mining town. Caravan Park ($15/night) had free washing machines and dryers. The miners canteen was open to travellers and for $15/head it is an all you can eat buffet. Cut your lunch for the next day, take home breakfast and even fill a doggie bag if you want. All inclusive.'
that is the joy of mining town. As far as I know Leinster is owned by BHP. A married worker with kids gets a house to keep the school viable, Most others are FIFO. Great feed at the pub also.

We're here now and enjoying it loads.... the people here in the CP are real friendly so of course I'm out chatting to them... well those in the laundry... gotta get that job done don't we.. you can pay one day at a time if you like... they seem to be real easy :) Have not gone to the pub yet.... we're still on our beer in the bus... am having one right now... YUM!
The Capricorn Roadhouse currently has free washing machines and dryers. You can pull in there, do the job and move on to a nice free camp around the place. Unfortunately there is now caravan park at the roadhouse anymore, but the tucker is pretty good, and the laundry is free. The showers out the back aren't hot, but the "truckie" showers are hot and free. They're located inside the roadhouse. The Bar & Grill next door is a bit pricey for everything, but worth a look. The development around the roadhouse is indicative of what's going on across the region. Gee, I hope the Chinese keep buying our iron ore.

Wow I have not heard of those mining town c.p. We are doing the lap and found it very hard sometimes to find free camps especially up the west coast. Does anyone know of any of these parks between Broome and Katherine as that is our next leg. As you can tell we have only been on the road a short time, and always looking for a cheaper alternative. Love this site.

you need to grab a copy of Camps 6 from most good newsagents, pleanty of free site's in there
There's Mary's Pool between Fitzroy and Halls Creek, and a couple of others. I can recommend Mary's with toilets and a nice spot to park. As Wombat recommended, Camps book is the only way to go when it comes to looking for camping spots.

if you plan on staying at Mary's Pool make sure you get there early (about 1300-1400) for an overnight stay or you may not get a spot, it get's very busy this time of the year and it is not a small site.
