Have moved

Despite the knowledge that we were going to miss out on scones again we left Mount Molloy this morning and arrived safely at Cooktown. Will are at the Cooktown CP and will be here for three days. After that we will continue to look around and camping wherever. Travel safe. Brian.

I love Cooktown and the country around there. The fact that it's a historical town so far away form the original settlements and cities makes it so much more significant in the country's history. Those beautiful old buildings, and the nice people.
If the cafe is still open on the jetty, check out the barra. I haven't eaten barra since, because I don't want to destroy the memory of the best barra I have ever eaten.
After living in Broome, working in the Gulf of Carpentaria that is still the best barra. Mmmm mmmm!
Enjoy your stay and safe travels. Where to next?

Thanks Chrissy, we came to Cooktown in spite of what we had been told about the place. It's feel is amazing and as you pointed out the old buildings really set the scene. Had the Barra for tea last night, mmmmmmm was great. We are just having a slow look around the area before we start our slow crawl back to Melb. Expect to be there early/mid Dec. We have kids and grandkids back there. We will be travelling down to Cape Tribulation on the way back to Mount Malloy. In the longer term we will slip back to Tassy for two or three weeks to catch up with family before heading off to spend 12 months in SA. There you in a nut shell. Trust you are well and enjoying your journey. All the best and safe travels. Brian.

Cooktown was one of my favourite places during my Queensland trip last year.

Which caravan park are you at Briche? The Big 4 in Cooktown has the best camp kitchen we've ever seen, well worth a look if you are staying elsewhere. Theres a huge TV screen on the wall, and a beautiful Jade vine over the patio.
There was an aboriginal bloke who did tours of his family's land, well worth it if hes still doing it.
And Enjoy Cape Trib! Absolutely the highlight of our North Queensland tour!

Hi Rosey, we are staying at the Cooktown CP. pretty basic but clean and it's all we really need as we are not here during the day anyway. Noted your comment about Big4, will drop in and have a look. We are really looking forward to our visit to Cape Trib. We will do that on our way out. Thanks for comments. Brian.

briche... which route are you taking to Cape trib? The direct road through Bloomfield is 4WD, and 4 years ago was "interesting" . You wouldnt get that lovely big van through.

We will be off loading the van at Lions Den. Have already been told the road is interesting but the current info on the road is 4WD recommended. Will find out the up todate info tomorrow. We leave Cooktown Sat morning so we will be up with the latest then.
