Been lurking on the site for a while now and getting some great ideas for all the posts.
Getting ready to hit the road but have a problem with the truck.
It started a couple of weeks ago when I went to start the rig and it would turn over but not fire. Took it to my mechanic and lo and behold after sitting in the yard for a while it started and no errors on analysis. Went fine for a week or so then when I was driving it stopped dead. Took a while to get going again. It did it twice in one day. Let it stand for a day and tried to start it again.... No go. Towed it to another mechanic. He found an error P1415 I think it was. But looking it up could not find a fix. He took the cover off the injector pump and found a what appeared to be a short in the wiring on top of the solenoid. He cleaned it up and away it went again. Lasted a week and then put the cover back on and guess what.... It stopped again. So I am at a loss as to the problem.
The rig is a 1HDJ 100R Gxv Toyota Landcruiser 2000 model.
Any help on where to look next or whatever would be much appreciated.

Sounds very much like a fuel problem. I had a car some years ago with similar problems -it finished up (after a new motor) as an intermittently blocked fuel tank from water and other dirt in the tank clogging the fuel line, more noticeable when accelerating. On cutting out, the water and dirt would float away from the fuel line and lo and behold, the motor would start again, run between 1- 100 miles, then cut out again. Took mechanics months and $$$ to say it was my driving habits, took me 1 day to find the fault myself.

I realise this is more than likely not the problem. many years ago I had a car that would start no problem, then for no reason not start. took it to my mechanic and he could never find the problem. One day it did it again just down the road from the mechanic so walked up and got him to come and have a look. Turned out one of the battery leads was intermittently touching the hot manifold. Not his fault he couldn't find it originally as the insulation around the lead had burned through and couldn't be seen, it was just a fluke it hapened where it did.
Ignition switch or faulty ground. Not uncommon for ignition switches to die due to the large amps that run through them and they have a tendancy to do strange things like this. Being electronically controlled injector pump, it could be a sensor or connection but none of which will show up in a scan. Best to get the multi meter out and start probing, I would start at your grounds and the fuel sol and test voltage while cranking. 80 series run a very weird system of negative switching, I'm not sure on the 100 series so yes grounds are a major factor.
Although not Diesel, but fuel Injected non the less,I had a 1991 EB Ford Auto, that almost got the local(only one,in my small town) Car Dealers wife, in a serious prang.
it used to just stop, with no reason, the dealer took it everywhere, trying to get it fixed,in the end he sold it cheap.to me.
He did disclose the problem,as he was an honest dealer,(you, had better be in a small town)
After,a few close encounters, one with a bus bearing down on me,the thing just died,I put my foot on the accelerator, and nothing happened,
Put into neutral,turned off key,and restarted,back into drive,and away we go,changed underwear,when I got home.
As an Ex Electronics Tech,I thought this has got to be an electrical fault, somewhere,as the turning off the ignition, and restarting cured the problem, for a short time, same thing happened again, same cure, fixed problem short time, same underwear change.
It was the Fuel Pump Relay, apparently,it is not on all the time,it just clicks on,and off.(didn't even know the mongrel thing needed a relay for the fuel pump),until I checked the net.I thought it was on when ignition was on.
I pulled the sealed relay apart, cleaned the contacts, and the car never missed a beat for the next 4 years.
I traded it back to the same dealer, and bought,a 1999 EA
A search of the Internet reveals, there have been several cases of people being killed by these things,in the US.
Just a quick update on this. Had it checked again. It seems that it is electrical to the pump. Cleaned up and crimped the connector (It was black with soot and whatnot) Left the protective cover off for a week and no problems. Put the cover back on and bingo it stopped again. Cleaned it up again and have had no problems. Spoke to a diesel guy and he said he had had the same problem. So hopefully it will be fixed.
Thanks for all the input from everyone.
Fingers crossed.
Hope to see some of you on the road very soon.
