Back from Cooktown

Hi all we arrived back at Mount Malloy today after spending time in Cooktown. Really an amazing place and good to see they have retained the heritage feel of the town. Caught up with Justcrusin01 on the day we were leaving. It was nice to share a coffee before we left. Did a day trip down to Cape Trib from Lions Den on our way back. Will be headed for the Mareeba rodeo grounds tomorrow. Trust all is well on the home front. Brian.

That Cooktown is still an amazing place & still with the feel of it's rich history, as is that 'one off' Lions Den, particularly on the weekend.

I still recall the typical Cooktown story of a workmate who long ago (about 35yrs back) got into strife over the local Police Sergeant's wife (silly fellow) and had to leave town in a hurry.  There was talk that the gun totin' sergeant was looking for him.  Loaded his essential stuff (wife & kids) into the company car & rushed south.  He finally reported in to the company at Nambour ... & they gave him a job there!

Must have been some interesting family conversations during the long trip south.  Was single when I saw him a couple of years later.

Just curious was it still blowing a gale when you were there, we didn't get one day without strong wind when we were there about six weeks ago

Maybe it was better with a wind blowing aussietraveller, the midges come out when its calm! We left Cooktown earlier than we had planned because the midges were so thick. (I became ill from so many bites)

Hi David, the weather was great for the four days we were there. The only day that the wind got up was the day we left and even then it really was not that bad.

Sorry to hear that Gerty, trust your better know. We did not have any problems with midges. Cheryl is a little prone to being bittern but she only got bittern once and that was it. Just lucky I guess.
