Help Save Lake Batyo Catyo.

Another attempt to close free/low cost camping is taking place in Victoria. Lake Batyo Catyo between St.Arnaud and Donald is under threat and fighting to keep it going the local caretaker is offering free powered camping for a limited time in an effort to prove its' viability by way of showing as much patronage as possible

Join me in the cause to help keep this place going. I'll be there with friends for about ten days from the 16th. of September, so come on, join me and help make a stand.

Thanks: Rongela

Issue #0002 August 2012

The plight of free and low cost campgrounds

This week we have seen the unfortunate spectre of yet another low cost, council owned campground being placed underthreat of closure. The Lake Batyo Catyo campground in the Northern Grampians region of Victoria is under threat of closure, but so far no one has given a concrete answer as to why this should be. The only clue is the whispers about the caravan park lobby. A red herring offered by one local Councillor was that because the lake isnt full, people wont want to camp here. Lake Batyo Catyo is a magnificent wetland. Not everyone wants to swim

and fish in the lake, but there are plenty who enjoy being close to nature and this campground is the ideal place for that. With 24 powered sites, the Lake Batyo Catyo campground is more than a bush camp, providing convenience and comfort in a nature lovers paradise. Water birds of every description flock here and wildlife abounds. When the lake is full you can enjoy fishing and boating, with a boat ramp provided for your convenience. The town of Donald is only 20km fromthe lake, providing a convenient source of groceries, fuel and entertainment. Grassy shaded capsites with power and hot showers provided, normally cost only $10 per night. But from now until 23rdSepember 2012, these sites are absolutelyFREE.

Volunteer caretaker Brett Wilson is fighting to save this low cost campsite and in order to demostrate the need for this facility, he is asking for your help to fill up the campsite to convince council not to close it down. You can stay for a day or stay for a week or anywhere in between. Meet many other like minded nomads as they rally for the cause in this beautiful spot.

It seems Victoria has taken bureaucracy to ridiculout levels. Hell they're arrogant when one has to take issue with them about an issue. I'm still fighting the City Link stuff up which has cost me much more than it should have.
